I noticed that the referees were wearing gadgets on their belts (like pagers) which controlled the clock: blowing the whistle stopped the clock, hitting a button on the gadget re-started the clock. Is this something new. I noticed that the scoreboards were new, also. Thanks.

Yes, It's all new. The refs have more control over the clock. And, I like the way the way time-outs end when time actually runs out.

actually refs have been wearing these for a couple years. My friend is a ref in the MAAC, A10, ACC, BIG EAST and he has been wearing it for at least the past 2 years while reffing.

They've been wearing them in some places. Having this technology available is recommended by the NCAA but not required. I imagine it will become mandatory at some point down the road.
