Just to add. Inability to get the ball in to Sowell was a combination of good scouting by Tennessee Martin, too much dribbling by our guards and the fact that our guards are small, hurt us. In the first half most of the turnovers occurred when TM trapped our guards, making them pick up their dribble to the left or right of the key and loft rainbow like passes into Sowell, which were easily picked off.Thought Hogga's height and passing ability could have been useful.

We've played a couple of games this year where the other teams guards we atleast as athletic (or more so) than ours but much bigger. Could be an eventual need we need to fill. Lampley had his best game to date and made several good passes but... Sowell rarely touched the ball while Gooding is now driving to the basket, finishing and drawing fouls. Also plays our best defense in man to man coverage. Negative is that his athletic ability often puts him in a gear that causes walks and turnovers. Mistakes of effort.

This is observation is subject to debate but IMO our defense is ahead of our offense. In each of the last two games we were burned by outstanding players but only after they ran through numerous picks and screens. Aside from an occasional lapse, our defensive effort looks good. Suprisingly, our weakest defenders are our guards. Both Lampley and Leon get burned frequently. Gooding, Orta, Jenkins and Sowell are playing very well defensively.

Think three games in one week contributed to our flat look today. We also have some obvious issues to address. Looking for a renewed effort Tuesday.

If you want to define "flat",take a look at the thumping Mt.St Mary's a winless bottem feeder gave to one of the MAAC's pre season favorites-Loyola.
Sometimes you just have to give credit to an opponent TM played well today--two fewer of their threes go down and we're looking at this game from a whole different perspective.
I know I'm looking at it as glass half full, but despite all the glaring deficiencies today we came mighty close to pulling it out.
Tuesday now becomes tougher as the Hall got roughed up out west-I trust that they will be looking to get back on track at home.

We could use another quality big man. The long season may take its toll on Sowell who consistently gets double-teamed. Next two games can be brutal.

This Peacock gruop reminds me a lot of the team from the mid-1990s with Bellinger and Hunter: Great guard play, but lack of a good inside game.
