From what we've seen of late, Ryan Bacon is fast becoming the best big man in the MAAC. Even with two and sometimes three defenders in his shorts (owing to our offensive limitations up front), he continues to make good decisions, both in scoring and rebounding. Only Nero of Fairfield comes close to matching his contribution. Amazing how one sees his confidence building with each game.

Good job by the staff in game management; substitutions and t/o's. Becomes even more challenging as we get further into the season with what is really a six man rotation (apologies to Messrs. Traore and Hill). Hopefully next year we can gain an immediate contributor. Remember, if Gooding leaves we will have three to give, with maybe a fourth opening up.

Excellent observations. With Lampley, Shumate and now Mumford (status unknown) gone, Reid never used and our walk-on just that, the term short bench is as short as it can get. No question the staff (read head coach) is doing an excellent job in substituting while keeping us competitive.

Regarding Gooding, as Sludge and Cindy point out, all is speculation. However, upon reflection I much rather hope he stays. While I see Akheem more as a situational role player, IMO he brings a lot to the table. Akheem is a warrior and there is no doubt in my mind that his attitude/effort reflects upon other players. Second, Akheem is our best defender (see games against Seton Hall and Loyola (Barney)) among others. While Akheem is turnover prone (gets ahead of himself), he is an excellent passer (eye opening pass to Bacon today) and a steadying influence. Finally, as SPC Fan observed, AG is outstanding in the open court. And did I mention that he can rebound? Unfortunately, God doesn't give everybody, everything and we all know about his lack of any outside shot.

If it sounds like a fan, I am. Don't see Akheem as a starter on a top tier team but I see a 15 minute per game player. Hope he stays.

Up Front......
Agree about Akeem.....he and Hill (if Hill develops) can play an important role supporting Bacon and two other starters up front. Akeem's defensive skills can come in mighty handy in end game situations and he tries very hard night in and night out.
I am on the verge of throwing in the towel on Costner.....I am not sure I've observed enough development to warrant holding out much hope. Guess we'll see.
If Belin and Conley can jump in and contribute significantly to an eight man rotation, (Bacon, Jenkins, Leon, Hall, Gooding, Hill) we can realistically aim for the 3-5 slot in the MAAC next season.

I agree oldtimer,i would prefer to have Akeem back as well. Despite inability to shoot a defensive stopper who knows his role is invaluable to any team. Has to understand his shot is the last option on offense. That said, i like his overall game and he is a warrior.
Right now we have two to give with possibility it could grow to four if Akeem leaves and Mumford is gone. Unknown as to his status. He was not on the trip to Western New York.
Assuming we split the difference and have three to give i would probably hold one for class balance or a transfer and use the other two on a ball handling guard and a shooter at the 2 or 3.If we give out three last spot for another big.We need a fourth guard i feel with some handle,we still turn it over way too much. In the Niagara game with our guards in foul trouble we had a short time playing one guard offense with Bacon helping bring it up against pressure.
