Subject: Jon Hogga

No use doing the "what if's" but came across some information on former player Jon Hogga. Jon is playing quite well for Gwynedd-Mercy College in Pa. The Team is D3 competing in the CSAC (Colonial States Athletic Conference). As of a week or so ago the team was 15-2 and ranked 2nd. On a senior layden team John has played in all games averaging 12.2 pts., 5.9 rebounds with a positive assist/turnover ratio. Shooting 54% from the field (plays the forward position) and 37% from the three.

This is D3 basketball so the stats should be intrepreted as such. However, there is no question in many of our regular fans minds that Jon would have helped us at the #3 this year. All Programs suffer disappointments but losing Jon, Lampley and Shumate and with Conley being a non-qualifier sure didn't help. Yet it is, what it is and, given our recent performances, that isn't too bad.

Our forgotten man....Shumate....I remember you were not too optomistic he could contribute in a meaningful way anytime soon.
Have any subsequent practice observations altered your opinion?
Bacon, Belin, Conley, Hill, Gooding (if he returns) and maybe even Costner would all seem to be slotted ahead of Shumate. Benchwarmer for two seasons? Seems likely.

Shumate attends every home game but cannot practice with the team. Assume he is being redshirted but really don't know his status. Regarding my opinion, that was based on only a few observations of a rookie freshman. Aggressive player who looks to score (inside) but has that in-between size that always raises questions.
