Since no one else took up your question, a non qualifier refers to the NCAA standards set up for offering a scholarship. Many schools admit students from disadvantage areas with scores lower than what the NCAA sets up. They make value judgments on the potential for the student. They are independent from the athletic department but sometimes lobbying does help. I assume for Conley the issue is aid versus his grade background. Leon was a non qualifier and was admitted and to present has shown he can handle the college work. Non qualifiers can not play or practice with the team during that first year. If they obtain satisfactory grades they become fully qualified for the scholarship and still have four years of eligibility.

Peacock..........thank you for clarifying "non-qualifier" status. One point I'm not clear about.......if a student comes from "disadvantaged background" who pays tuition if they do not qualify for scholarship?

DodgerBlue...yes we qualify as "old". Was easier to understand when Bill Smith, Clem Reck, etc roamed the Armory!

There are many aid programs a kid can qualify for. In the end the parents may have to put up some money. The only restriction is that the money can not come from athletic funds. I think the visit cited below was to determine if Conley fits the criteria for admittance and if he qualifies for aid.
