Regarding the discussion below about improvements and renovations: projects like that require money. Are all of you posters willing to donate some serious $$$$ to make it happen?

Take the 52 million allocated for a "Student Center" Whatever the hell that is, and build an arena.

So I guess that's a "no."

I give what I can, the real question is "Where does it go?" The past 20 years not a whole lot of alumni contributions was spent on athletics. Here's to hoping the new administration will reinvest in athletics.

I would suggest that you contribute as a restricted gift to the Don Kennedy Club,or to the athletic department.

Careful on the gifting. Not sure how it works here but at some schools the monies designated specifically for athletics are the same amounts subtracted from the initial allocations. Simply put, there is the initial budget process, with funds adjusted to meet these numbers after allowing for the restricted gifts.

A "creative" AD might be able to work around this however. It's been rumored to have happened in the past.

So easy to give advice or make comments when one knows nothing about what is going on. FYI and with due respect to Bill Stein, this AD has been more proactive and "creative" than you could ever imagine. In his short tenure he has accomplished more internally and without fanfare than you could ever understand. Take your "tag" name and go back to worrying about the Treasury Department where you obviously know about the same as what it takes to run an Athletic Department. Now that the season is over we are back to some wise-ass idiots on this Board. Too bad

With all due respect, you misunderstand me.I was in fact praising Mr. Stein for his ability to work around the system to get the job done, while handicapped by the prior anti-athletics prez.
Few can appreciate what he did under the radar and for which he got little or no credit.

My apologies! You are absolutely right on Bill Stein. With regard to Pat Elliott, from what I know, he has accomplished so much in his short tenure, both inside and outside the Athletic Department. Like JD he is trying to build an infastructure that will bring SPC to another level. Some examples are building (or rebuilding) relationships with Board Of Trustees, upper management and the like. It one thing for our President to say that athletics is once again an integral part of SPC and quite another to put that thought into action. With some of the "lazy", disinterested personnel still on the payroll Pat Elliott appears to be doing all of the dirty work that is required after all the rhetoric is over. He and Bill Stein have different skill sets. Bill was great under very adverse circumstances but Pat is the right guy at this time. I am not in that inner circle to detail everything but even from a distance what the guy is doing is obvious. Sorry for the misintrepretation.

Oldtimer please stop speaking in generalities and tell us what Elliott has done.If you cant than you have lost all credibility with me.

Losing credibility with you is not my concern. If you don't think that building relationships within the college, which WAS mentioned, is the first step in turning things around then you have no idea as to how to build any business or Program. Some specifics, a joint Athletic Department/ Alumni Development Golf Outing scheduled in June (formerly the Murray outing) is now a joint effort with Athletics benefiting revenue wise. Credit Bill Stein for doing this over the years but Elliott has taken it a step farther. Or how about the real possoibility of adding athletic/type majors as part of the colleges academic offerings. This was discussed previously on this Board.Examples under consideration are phys. ed, and sports management. These will not happen overnight and much work goes into the planning stages but Elliott is pushing/coordinating the drive. Lot of work for the guy to do besides running the day to day operations of the department. Easy to be a professional critic rather than doing the actual work.

I could list a half dozen other initiatives that I have become aware of both on my own and from others, including posters (Peacock Nation, Postcards from athletes just begun on the Athletic site, emphasis on Fundraising to supplement a woefully inadequate athletic budget etc.)
No special inside information and many of these initiatives are becoming well known (see Cindy as well as prior posts by others). Think PE is open to reviving the Don Kennedy Club and things like video streaming of basketball games but there are other people who know much more than I do. The only area were I would agree with you and others is that the college has always been closed mouth and only communicating with Alumni and fans on a need to know basis. Everyone should be aware of the efforts ongoing.
Word of mouth is not a good way to communicate.

So much to be done due to previous neglect.

And perhaps some ongoing neglect. Easy for some at SPC to give tacit verbal support but leave the nuts and bolts for someone else to do. Think PE is working with some of the dooers but IMO there remain, as in any organization,
those who never pitch in. Think the job PE has is enormous and unfortunately that means IMO that it will not get done as quickly as we all like. To me, first step is the athletic budget and or fundraising to get the Athletic Department up to reasonable size so that not everyone, including the AD , is not on overload, As you say, too much that needs to be done, even by on e or two energenic people.

I am going to give this year towards the athletic club...they should really advertise that better, it wasn't until recently I realized you could do that. Also, I have never seen mention of the Kennedy Club other than on this board. Do you know where you can find info regarding this club?

Also, Cindy I read your comments on NJ.com regarding your concern with all the scholly's in one year. I've thought of that myself. However, I think Dunne might be willing to go all out for the chance at a Maac title in two years and worry about rebuilding after the fact. Fine with me, wondering everybody else's thoughts.

The school really does a poor job in marketing the Don Kennedy Club which while still breathing, barely, has been in as state of suspended animation since its heyday in the 70s.
There has been discussion about a revival of post game receptions, suspended by the prior president. That would be a start.
A few seasons back the baseball team sent out requests for donations and I responded for two years. The last two years there haven't been any, and I haven't.Sometimes you just have to ask.

Re the overload in one class.I agree that in our position,Dunne must try to get the best player available when he can. This is similar to how an NFL team may try to draft the best athlete available rather than drafting a position.
Success in a year that yields 20 wins and post season play will help in recruiting for the future. But the down ,rebuilding seasons, are sure to bring out the negativists ,like some on this board, who for some perverse reason want to see Dunne fail.
The teams at the top lose little next season and I would hope that we can make a run at the 3-5 spots. The following season will be our best shot, with the usual top dogs getting a jump on the rebuilding process.

A common misconception; the RLC is not the sole domaine of the athletic department. It is for use by all the students, not just student athletes. That is why regular students cannot use the Rankin Hall weight room. It "belongs" to the athletic department, not the student population.

As for the Kennedy Club, it was banned because it served alcoholic beverages. If you want a club on campus, all you need is a full-time staff member to serve as an adviser and 10 student members. Go to student activities and ask for assistence.

Bill Stein is still active with advancement. I am sure he will be glad to accept your views and any contributions.

As for Patric, he is no different than anyone who takes on any job at any organization; you do not what it is like until you get hired. You will always be working to clean up someone else's mess.

This is from the President of the College's report on the recent meeting of the Board of Trustees: The Board of Trustees also approved an expansion of the Capital Campaign to include fundraising for Jesuit identity programming, the sciences and athletics. While the student center remains the core component of the campaign, this broadened platform will provide fundraising opportunities that appeal to a greater number of donors, as well as support initiatives outlined in the new strategic plan
