Two thoughts(???) 1. We need a Drummond type transfer or someone else like Conley up front and 2. buy the staff a plane ticket to Croatia, Lithuania or Serbia or Bosnia to get a 6/4 or 6/5 stand still wing shooter that everyone seems to have. I think they grow next on the steppes or something. They'll have to fight on without me Sunday, prior reservation

Right on the money.

We need Conley and another front line player, currently not on the roster, to be ready to start next season. Conley alone, even if he is ready to contribute as a frosh after a year long layoff (doubtful) won't improve this club enough.

Basically, if Gooding, Costner or Hill are anything other than our fourth man in the frontcourt rotation next season, we are toast again....and Dunne's Division One head coaching career will be winding down.

It really is that simple.

It wasn't the front court that lost the game. Better start questioning stratgey , like starting the same non-funtional group game after game. One wonders if anyone knows what they are doing here.

Cindy was there; he can better comment on effectiveness of front court in this particular game.....stats for Gooding and Costner and Traore did not look too good.....I was referring to my overall impressions of our frontcourt based on seeing 4 games this season.

I can't form an opinion on Dunne's strategic talents, or lack thereof.....he just doesn't have the horses to make any scheme effective. I seriously don't think Pitino or Roy Williams or Coach K could win in the MAAC with our current roster....the content of which is Dunne's responsibility two recruiting classes and eight scholarships in.

Tomorrow is one of our two best chances for a MAAC win this season, on paper. Hope we get it for the players sake. Fan hopes for this season are already kaput.

do you really think he is an effective bench coach?

Honestly, this season I can't tell because none of our starters dribble or pass very well, not one front line player can make a wide open 10 ft. shot and only WJ can create his own shot....sort of. Every one of our Fiore, Blind and Leckie teams had better talent....even in Leckie's first season, IMO.

I will say I thought we underachieved last year with Sowell, Jenkins and Orta on the squad.....the failure of the Lampley/Leon point guard experiment was a nightmare and fouled up the entire recruiting scheme.

To your point, Rob Kennedy (MAAC TV color announcer) was very critical during two telecasts last year, indicating the ball did not get to Sowell nearly enough. During one telecast, he voiced the strongest criticism by a color announcer of a coach's scheme I have ever heard on TV. Whether that was a poor scheme or abysmal point guard play makes no difference....the same person is responsible.

We're all frustrated.....we just have to hope, based on no reasonable expectation, that both Conley is good and hits the ground running....and we get a front line scorer.

IF NOT, I predict we'll all be debating Boyle, Bannon, Danny Hurley, etc. in about 18 months.

Front court is the chronic problem. It leads to double teams on Jenkins, and Hall has no one to convert or catch when he penetrates .
The need to pack it in defensively allows front line of foes to pop out to the perimeter where the were deadly hitting 50% on threes last night--we've seen it over and over.
Last night we executed once in that manner when Costner popped out and naiiled a three. I'd like to see more of that.He seems to be the only big who might be capable of that.
Bacon works extremely hard but is over matched against 5s.
Traore is too slow and lacks offensive skills.
Hill needs some bulk and is not yet ready--he could develop given time.
Gooding's shooting woes are well documented and his slashing skills seem to have evaporated. He would work best in transition, but that game isn't there without a reliable rebounder.
I hear we may now be looking more seriously at JUCOs.Problem is that they no longer a fertile source since Div. 1 programs have increased in number to such a large extent.. I hope we can get lucky and land Drummond and that he works out.

If I were Dunne and felt I had a moral obligation, if not the job security concerns, to show significant improvement over three successive single digit win seasons, I'd go the JUCO/transfer route right now....no doubt about it. Desperate? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely.
Two frosh added next year won't change the big picture and Jenkins career would basically be wasted due to a poor supporting cast. If we can somehow pickup a Drummond and a good JUCO, Wesley's junior/senior seasons (and Dunne's career) might be snatched from the jaws of disaster.
Let me mention the elephant in the room.....if two better players are not added by next spring, if I were Jenkins, I'd transfer out. Wesley could definitely contribute on the A-10 level, for example. I hope it doesn't happen; it's up to Dunne.
