Subject: Nice bounceback win

Recovering from their worst defeat vs Monmouth,SPC got the job done with what JAJK called for...more intensity and a total team effort.Following this young team requires patience and the expectation that they will have their ups and downs.
Tonight's win was wire to wire as uncharacteristically they jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, with Jenkins leading the way in transition, and held a lead that fluctuated between 4 and 13 throughout. They showed character ,guts and grittiness and came up with the answers every time FDU threatened.
In tonight's game, Dunne was tested early as Bacon was sent to the bench for the last 15 minutes of the first half after picking up his second foul and scoring only one bucket.
Costner was also to join him.Patching together a front line that featured Traore, who was steady, and Jack Hill who sparkled with three buckets, two on very nice short jumpers, the Peacocks built a 9 point lead at the half.
During that period, Costner nailed his only attempt, a three.
Now 4-7 on the season from long range, one wonders why he doesn't take more of them. Could he be the outside wing shooter we desperately need? The shot is frequently there. I'd like to see him toss a few more up.
Interesting to note that neither Mumford nor Reid saw action and Kabonga, turned his offensive rebound into a basket in his 3 minute stint.
In the second half Dunne shortened his bench further, forsaking the Chinese fire drill approach, and used but seven players.Starting,Costner,Wesley,Nick,Akeem,Ryan, and subbing only with Hall and Traore. The fresh Bacon came alive with 12 second half points including a thunderous breakaway dunk. His work was not easy either as Mofuanya was a defensive force inside for FDU blocking 9 shots.
Nick Leon led the Peacocks with 20 including a perfect 8-8 from the line. After early season struggles,he is now shooting 88%. It's nice to see the ball in his hands at the at the charity stripe when the game is on the line in the last few minutes.
Akeem contributed his lock down defense in the last five minutes when he returned to guard Baptiste.25 points. No one else seemed to be able to do it while he was saddled with foul. trouble.Without on outside shot,Gooding did his slashing thing and chipped in with 8 points. But it is clear that his main roll is defensive stopper and he does it very well.
Wesley also contributed on D with5 steals but couldn't make the three 0-5,looking much better in the 10-15 foot range---13 points.
Hall dished off 4 assists-no turnovers- while failing to score. He has to think a bit more offense to help the team more.
A mere 9 turnovers, and 12 steals were helpful as the Peacocks forced 20 turnovers.

Crowd was small with the students now homeward bound and others busy shopping I guess, but most of the 537 listed as attending must have been in the luxury boxes 'cause I didn't see anywhere near that number.

Now I'm off on vacation for the next three games, but looking forward insightful comments by other Peacock fans.

Wishing all a very Merry Christmas!

Cindy , thanks for the report. I was among those Christmas shoppers . How much did Hill play in second half ? 11 minutes total in the boxscore seemed bit odd , and I was hoping no injury or other problem . Well done to all the players and a Merry Chrismas to all .

As I mentioned,Dunne used only seven players in the second half.
He started Bacon, Costner,Gooding,Leon, and Jenkins. Hall and Traore came off the bench. Hill saw no further action, I don't believe there was any injury, but the starters were rested having spent so much time on the bench in foul trouble.
Hill seems to be shaking his frosh jitters and improving steadily. He is very active on the floor and the last two games he has shown inside spin moves and a nice touch from short range.
I would put him ahead in development of where Costner was a year ago and I think most are aware of Jordan's increasing impact.
This no doubt will be a difficult season, but a few weeks ago Loyal was looking for "development".I think it's safe to say that you can see it in these two.
