Peacock, several weeks ago I asked you to leave me out of your conversations especially when you do not refer to me directly. So play your games with Sludge but do not bring my name into the conversation. As you know we all have "buddies" as you do also. In fact, I respect you "buddy" as a well reasoned and thought out person, but do not go under the misguided belief that I am not aware of the relationship. However, while this is a conversation board, hopefully, about SPC basketball all posters should be shown some respect.

Finally, think and post what you want about our basketball team and coach. However, before commenting on our Athletic Department and Director please check with your informed source as I believe he shares the same high opinion of Pat Elliott as I do. I've noticed a few posts (not you) now beginning to take shots at him without any idea of what an AD actually does 24/7. Some posters think that his only job is to worry and pontificate about things we post here. Shows me how little these posters know about the day to day operations of any athletic department, let alone ours which is completely understaffed. Two hundred plus athletes, nineteen teams, recruiting and compliance issues, budgets, academic eligibility issues, relations hips that need to be fostered within the college, publicity and on and on and on. I could probably name a dozen more multi tasks which are extremely important. A lot of good things are happening under Pat Elliott's watch. Ask "your buddy" as he is aware of quite a few.

With regard to John Dunne, one poster wrote that the Athletic Administration will be judged on what they do with him. At least your post is more realistic. While I am not privy to any of this, I agree with you that JD has a contract and I would bet dollars to donuts that his final evaluation will come at or near the end of that contract. That is unless any of our posters contributes to our already depleated athletic budget and endowment fund. Should be well known to anybody with half a brain (not necessarily an insider) that most colleges are suffering in today's economy and budgets are being cut. SPC, even though our day enrollment is still growing is suffering in our evening programs. Necessary budgetary steps have recently been announced and ALL parts of SPC are feeling the impact. Nothing to panic about, just reality. So I doubt that for the 50 or so fans that I saw at the Stony Brook game that consideration is being given to buying out anyone's contract. So until then let the so-called experts in coaching and athletic administration have a field day bashing and second guessing every move. As for me I wish the guy and his staff some luck as I do with Pat Elliott who is working his you know what off and is accomplishing things internally that very few have a clue about. As I said, ask your friend and he'll give you some insight. PS I am not that person on the other Board that you referred to. LOL

You were invoked because of your opinions stated below in Christmas thoughts. I didn't take issue with them other than calling you an apologist which even you have to acknowledge in some issues. Taking a position of not under achieving is not exactly a supportable phrase in his third season against pretty weak competition. However I don't have a bone to pick with you as everyone has a right to their opinions on the team, a fact our boy Sludge can not stomach as he seems only to react to other's opinions. And like it or not you are Sludge's source as he has little to no other contacts in the school. In fact he has flatly denied that he has any insider contacts, which implies you are not an insider, right coach.

I fully well know what people say about Elliot and have only taken issue with this undying support for Dunne no matter what the record. I have argued with them that no sensible AD would tolerate what I am told would happen. So from that point I can only assign the words that I used. Add in the response on the Blog and fear of this ineptitude does set in. I did not think it was you but someone reporting directly to Elliot. Objectivity does not exist in many arguments and is woefully lacking in many of the posts. However the facts of the quality of this team now and most likely for the next two years do not argue for anything approaching mediocrity. Blind didn't have these problems, but he could not deal with personalities of the players and his players rebelled. Leckie didn't have these problems after he learned this was not high school, but he did not want to apply himself to recruiting. Dunne has a high work ethic and rigid control manner yet accomplishes little with these efforts. And with all due repect to your feeling that much is second guessing, commenting on what is transpiring to date is first hand guessing as the reality speaks for itself. As Loyal continually asks, what justification was there for the extension given by Stein. Recruiting was the main one and yet the last two years have little recruiting opportunities as we are basically full out. Now Elliot inherited this but he is also assigned a feeling of belief that nothing is wrong with it or our current setup. I have refused to believe that but do get told it is true. The issue is that this is the feeling when all I would expect is nothing more than support for now as any AD should do for all their coaches.

Now Loyal thinks Marist is our best chance for a road win. From what I have seen I seriously doubt, but will be rooting while listening. I would prefer to be wrong with my observations and we go 8-8 in the next 16 conference games and would retract all that I have printed. One can say that certain others would have difficulty in admitting their errors in judgment, that is if they had any clue how to judge.

Just to put an end to this, neither you nor I nor anyone else knows what PE is thinking about the current situation. He is visible at every game. My best guess is that he is observing and evaluating while being supportive of both the team and it's coaching staff. I would have little respect for him (or anyone else) if they did not do likewise. Without psychic ability one shouldn't read anything else it it. IMO, one shouldn't go by second hand guesses regarding what the AD thinks and then report them as if they were fact.

By the way the self made criteria of going 8/8 in conference play is a bit unrealistic, don't you think? As I posted Pomeroy had us penciled in at 3/15? Are we setting ourselves up for the next wave of criticisms? I also disagree strongly with those who state that this team is locked in for the next two years. We have several scholarships remaining (including Conley's) and IMO those will be extremely important. We have 2/3 front line players and several guys who can help off the bench (Gooding, Costner, Hill). Those guys are legit 10-15 minute players on a top tier MAAC team. That said and leaving all coaching issues aside things can improve. Whether they do or not I have no idea. Coaching, IMO is important but nothing is more important than having the players to coach. Put the blame where you will but we do not have the players to meet your standards this year. Going 8/8 would truly be overachieving. Other than that I have no problem with your current postings. I'd just rather be left out of your discussions unless I adress you personally. Have fun with Sludge as others seem to enjoy that back and forth.
