Subject: Ryan should have gotten POW .

Ronald Moore got MAAC player of the week . He certainly had solid week . Siena won twice and he had 26 points , and combined 26 assists , rebounds , steals and blocks . But Ryan had 34 points , and combined 30 rebounds , blocks , steals and assists plus a game winning shot . It is always difficult to compare players at two different positions and it was a close call , but one fan who thinks they got it wrong .

my mistake in above post , missing Moore's game against Kansas last Monday night . But it doesn't change things much on a per game basis , and doesn't change this poster's opinion that despite Moore's excellent week , Ryan deserved the honor .

No knock on Moore but I agree that Ryan deserved it equally as much. Solution would have been to have co-players of the week. While it's way to premature to over speculate, I still hold my pre-season observation that we are but two players away. Actually one. You were correct on Bacon and I joined you on his bandwagon early last year. You saw him play before entering SPC and your evaluation was right on target. Well, I've seen Conley play (not as much as you watched Ryan) but enough to convince me that he is in Ryan's class. Different type of players and should compliment each other nicely. Throw in Jack Hill as the third man in that rotation and if Darius continues on track scholastically (OK for first semester) we will have something. Always the possibility that my evaluation could be wrong but I feel pretty confidant as to what the young man can bring to this team. Let's go get that scorer at #3. Then Gooding, Costner and perhaps Reid can get pretty decent minutes as situational players. That was my stated feeling and I'll stick with it.

Getting ahead of myself, time wise, but it's about time a flicker of optimism crept in. Figgy had it about right. It's the whole body of work that counts (the season) not any one individual game. However, right mow the needle is pointing slightly positive. We do have some players

I had two open questions and you answered one already with your welcome comments about Darius's current status . Having missed the last two games , has Khalil Mumford been with the team ?

Glad to hear you think Conley can contribute; we'll need it to happen. It's very tough for a front line player to contribute right away....we've had some pretty good ones that had tough frosh years....Arrosa, Alex Roberts, Daren Rowe come to mind. First year in D 1 plus rust means we'll have to be patient.
Agree we need that "3" who can score in the worst way.
Recent three games indicate club is improving...I agree. Winnable home games look like Fairfield....then the last three....Iona, Manhattan and Marist.
Would be great to steal one vs. the Stags. How focused could they be?....they had us 21-2 out of the gate a few weeks ago! Our guys should be up for it.
Did the Rutgers transfer land anywhere yet?

Norfolk State. Received little interest.

jajk, Mumford is on the bench. Didn't play well the last few times he was given minutes. CJ Reid seems to be subing over him, even though they play different positions..Again both are freshmen but it's obvious Reid has the greater upside. Reid was actually guarding #4 of Loyola (their point guard) at times, last game. Seems to be a a defensive player in the mode of Gooding and Costner.

For Loyal, sticking my neck out a bit about Conley since the young man has not set one foot on the floor for SPC. Yet, even if I wrong and he's not quite as good as I project he's still a valuable player. My short evaluation is: At 6'7" plus he has that Big East type of body but also has mobility. Amazingly fast base line to base line for his size. Can play face to basket with a short jumper but I see him more as a 10-15 pt. per game scorer once he gets going.Average leaper but has ups. A bigger, stronger version of Pete O'Dea (for those who can remember) with that same box out ability and smarts for rebounding. Finally, the few times I saw him, Darius did not appear to be a selfish player but set picks etc. and played the team role. How good he is or will be is anybody's guess and it will take time, like any freshman, to fit in. However, it's easier to be optimistic after watching someone perform (see jajk on Bacon) than just reading about the kid.

Has he disappeared literally or just figuratively?

Never spoke with him but he shows up to back the team almost every single game. Also have no idea how his grades were but I assume he's being red-shirted even if his issue is resolved favorably.

Seems like an inordinate amount of time for the NCAA to rule on this matter. If favorable, assume we would have heard by now. Would be interested to know if his ride is still being covered or if he now is required to pay some on his own.

Have heard he will sit out this year and be eligible next year. Assume that makes him a partial qualifier meaning gets a scholly for this year then has 3 years eligibility .If he graduates on time gets the 4th year of eligibility.

So next years "recruiting" class contains two forwards, one of which (Conley) is highly thought of and the other is at least very athletic...maybe JD should be looking for another shooter.

Wing shooter should be first priority.
