Winning the MAAC would take more than a miracle. An at large bid to the Dance is impossible. So what are we left with?...a vastly improved team from not only the last two years, but the start of this season. This is a team that is interesting and frequently fun to watch.
As I've stated before the individual and team improvements clear since the atrocity that was the Monmouth game.
Ryan Bacon's game inside has freed up opportunities for the guard outside. So much so that the result is that the offensive flow is much better.
Has the team finally begun to understand and execute the coach's plan? Have they just jelled as a team? Or has Dunne suddenly been blessed by the Holy Spirit? Because they are not only playing better, they are looking smarter.
But now onto some of the specifics of tonight's game for those who missed it.
We lost tonight not because of anything we didn't do. We lost tonight because as Sludge had stated Evanovich a one dimensional player used that aspect of his game to near perfection, nailing 5-6 threes----all backbreaker variety.
I don't believe it was from our packing it in so much as good execution and ball movement from FF. Sometimes you just have to give the other guys the credit they deserve.
But their good movement would have meant little without hitting62% on threes.
Their size inside was another problem Nero's 20 pts ,13 boards and 8-12 from the line were hard to offset . One player we did do a decent job on was Peacock killer Han.Shadowed by Nick and Brandon he was held to 10 points and only 5 assists which should have been more considering their 13 threes.
Getting back to Ryan...8-11 in an incredible variety of shots. Interesting to note, two of his three misses were on square up ,face the basket -10 ft jumpers.I liked seeing him add that shot to his arsenal and trust that he can make them. When he does ,it will take his game to the next level. With Conley's help, the sky's the limit for Ryan...and hopefully the Peacocks.
One area where SPC suffered was the 2-14 combined that Wes and Nick put up from long range-Some nights a few more will drop and we'll fare better.
The bright spot in 3-land was Costner who for the second game in a row hit both his three attempts.Maybe he can be our Evanovich+ .I'd like to see him take a few more now that he is gaining confidence.
Akeen gave us some spark off the bench adding 10 points and six boards where Jack Hill was very active in a very brief stint with 5 rebounds.
To SPCfan(Reid played little as I believe he did not match up well tonight vs the Stags)
As has been stated elsewhere, there are pieces missing, but the groundwork has been laid for improvement. All teams will have their clunkers, particularly young teams, but a greater number of the few fans who actually see the games are starting to feel more optimistic.

For those who missed it it was a wacky night around the MAAC...Iona wins at Niagara,Canisius crushes Rider by 18,andMarist falls in OT to Siena.

Didn't make it; thanks for the report.

How did Hall play tonight? Nice assist/TO ratio.

Was working up near Poughkeepsie and say Marist/Siena. Foxes up 10 with just over two minutes to go, coughed up the lead and were never in it in OT. Was there and still cannot believe Saints, outplayed for 38 minutes, won that game.

Hall's shot until garbage time was a 15 ft shot that rimmed out.
Did miss all three from the line--two when we trailed by four.
Assists were frequently down low or alley oops.
Nice jog defensively when he spelled Leon guarding Han.
Had no trouble with the press or inbounding the ball as others often do...Felecian's loss.
