Subject: Ryan Bacon

Ryan is a one man gang on the boards and scoring inside...he has really emerged. If he continues to improve, look out.
Ryan needs help up front big time.
I know we have only three guards, but as of now, we are counting on both Conley and Belin to step right in and contribute more than currently offered by Gooding, Costner, Traore or Hill.
I understand Oldtimer's viewpoint about needing another guard, but unless Hill comes on fast, we need BOTH the new guys to step right in and contribute, putting Gooding, Costner and Hill in backup roles next year.
Hoping for a flurry of 3's to get back in this one.

Great second half comeback - about time they caught a couple of breaks.

Great block with about 1:30 left by Bacon, then finishes a great game by tipping in the winner at the buzzer! Tremendous effort inside by Ryan all game. He is undoubtedly the primary reason for the club playing better the last 6 weeks or so.
Two close losses (Jaspers, Loyola) and two close wins (Iona, Griffs) on the road this year....things do even out.
Canisius PG is a very, very good player.....
Now hope to get 2 of 3 at home from Iona, Marist and Manhattan...won't be easy, but should have a shot in all three.

Bacon was also the guy who got his hands on the inbounds play that gave us a chance for victory. Loyal, with regard to your observation above, I think the new guys will step-up inside and Hill will eventually be a player. In any event, no one really knows how many 'ships will be available - probably not even the staff. Have a feeling we'll have plenty to take a look see to meet your concerns. LOl

Gray, you stole my opening line (only kidding). It certainly about time that the players and coaches caught a break after losing so many heartbreakers over the past two years.

The bottom line is that no matter what happens this season, we know what we have and know what we need. One or two players (perhaps already in house) and we'll more than compete within our Conference.

By the way did anyone notice how well we play in open court. Nick, Wesley and Brandon run the break well, as does Ryan Bacon. Beats his man down court a lot. Also notice how well Wesley shoots the pull-up jumper on the break. Think in half court he often does not have a chance to square up being guarded so closely. Often forces his shot as we have few other options. Got to admit these guys are fun to watch - always battling.

WOW Ryan with the steal and the buzzer tip-in . Could not happen to a more deserving guy . But great also for Wesley , Nick ,Akeem et.al . who did not quit .

Much better second half, very fun to watch...Congrats to all players. Big comeback win on the road will make the trip home a lot more fun for the team. Great game by Ryan...if only we had a Logins to go with him.

I don't think enough has been said about the team defense. Adjustments made at the half holding Canisius to 23 points and locking down Iona the last five minutes were keys to both wins.
After taking a beating on the boards in the "ugly" first half ,we solved the problem in the second stanza with Bacon (18pts 15 boards) putting the cherry on at the buzzer.
Good decision by Dunne to leave Bacon in with 4 fouls down 7.
Difference between this year and last is better second half performance ,win or lose. Last year the last five minutes was usually fatal.
Team and coach are now learning how to win.
Have to admit it didn't look promising when after battling back Turner banked his last second three.
Makes the long trip home a bit easier.
Note to Loyal. There is speculation Gooding who can graduate this year may possibly move on.

Free throw shooting also good today 15-17 kept us in the game.
And did I hear Canisius was second worst in the nation. They were 11-15,not that bad either.
I for one think we try the ally-oop too often,it seldom works, ,but wasn't the one to Costner pretty.

The Allez-Oop was one of the prettier I've in a long time. I hadn't realized quite how athletic Costner was, but he caught the ball, hung in the air and emphatically deposited the ball.

The play of Ryan Bacon today was truly outstanding. His steal and tip in during the last 25 seconds was truly a highlight reel in itself.
B/T/W Goldsberry reminds me so much of Tim Spitler. Unbelieveable hustle and determination.

I couldn't be more thrilled with this win. When was the last time we pulled a win out of our asses in a game where we got beat for 39 minutes? In a crazy way, it's a sign of progress. One of the steps toward winning is finding any possible way to win, no matter what. It's only the last second that counts. On to Rider!
