My better half was cleaning out a file cabinet and asked me if I wanted to keep something... The Official MAAC Men's Championship program from 1991. Uh yes, still want to keep that! I still remember the excitement in the then Pepsi Arena of the semi win over LaSalle and the finals win over Iona.... with about all the Siena Fans in attendance on our side since Iona beat them.

Reading the program talking about Marvin Andrew's prowess on defense (written by Mr Tim Camp).(With Bob Fazio, still my favorite Peacocks)

"He held 6-10 Jim Narius of Holy Cross scoreless; he held Siena's Marc Brown to 9 points in the SPC win; and he held Seton Hall's Terry Dehere below double-figures for only the second time in Dehere's career."

Semi win over La Salle in 1991 was one of the more improbable wins in the modern era, when you look at the rosters on paper.
NBA backcourt of Overton and Woods (both first round picks!) were bested by Jasper Walker and Antoine Allen...who was a freshman!!!! SPC was down 8 and given up for dead with 5 minutes left, Woods taunting Jasper....then Andrews hits a prayer "3" with one second left on the shot clock (not Marvin's specialty); we steal the ball on consecutive possessions for layups...then the team executed an absolutely perfect 4 mintues to get the win.
We also caught a huge break when Iona upset Siena in the semi, as Sean Green was unconscious (everything he threw up went in) against the Saints..the next night, Iona's supporting cast threw in a real clinker, Andrews shut down Green, Connell and Ken Mack(!) shot 4-4, we played OK, not great..Antoine Allen made a super clutch one and one.....and got our first NCAA bid.
'91 club was about #48-#55 in the final Sagarin, a lofty height we've come nowhere near since.

Your recall is incredible... and appreciated!

I remember we lost to Texas out in Columbus Ohio in the Round of 64. From what I recall, we didn't get blown out, but really weren't in a position to win.

The game was at Dayton. I still say to this day if we did not play a team coached by Tom Penders who knew us from Fordham, we could have beaten Texas.

Lost by 8 is my memory, hung tough but in the words of Teddy Fiore in the paper the next day:"..they hit a couple of long threes..."

Anyone care to guess who received the Chevrolet Player of the Game Award for SPC?

I believe it might have been Tony Walker.I was there so I didn't see the award on TV ,but I believe he got over 20 points in the game.
