One of the faithfull spoke to Conley. He says he is 6-7 245. looks it to me.
As to Shumate he was in the stands and the issue is an NCAA eligibility issue.Hope it's resolved by the end of the year in the kids favor.

Shumate did not attend a "diploma mill"....he graduated from St. Benedict's, right?

I am surprised this issue, whatever it is, was raised months after Shumate's signing.

Too bad; for him personally and for the club; we could use all the help possible up front.

You can't trust those Benedictines though...they'd do anything to get one over on the Jesuits.

My bad; Jamin did play for Boyle, you are right.

Too bad the Shumate difficulties came to light so late in the game. Was someone at SPC asleep at the switch re: validating Jamin's eligibility? Or did the NCAA reverse a position initially taken?....hard to imagine that.

Anyway, Lord knows we certainly need help up front.

By the way, in Jasper's freshman year, he could not make and therefore did not take many open 15 foot foul line jumpers. While that weakness eventually came back to haunt us in the Texas NCAA game, Jasper was a legitimate scoring threat by his junior and senior seasons.

I know, I know, I am groping for a silver lining while we face three more months of "wait 'till next year".....

Our Academic Coordinator is extremly compitent and arguably one of the best people in the entire athletic department.Hope that answers your query.

Losing Shumate was difficult but moreso in terms of an undermaned roster. Doubt if he would have contributed much this year and would have initially placed him behind Hill, Traore, and Costner in the upfront rotation. Does have potential but as a freshman would have had growing pains. The loss of Lampley hurts so much more.

What went on with Reid is a mystery to me also. Let's see how it plays out. The kid has some raw athletic talent and cold have IMO contributed much more than Mumford or unfortunately Gooding.

I'm confused.
Did you mean that Jasper's problems returned in his senior year in the NCAA tourney vs. Texas?

Yes, for that ONE game Jasper could not hit the broad side of a barn. Had a few wide open jumpers that did not fall in the first few minutes, then got into foul trouble. In the second half, missed a few very easy shots when we were down 3-5 in the second half.

I'm nuts for remembering a game 17+ years ago, but if Jasper played even his "B" game that day in Dayton, SPC would have gone right down to the wire with the Longhorns....a much more winnable game than the U Mass NCAA contest four years later.

Jasper Walker had a GREAT senior season....with a true freshman as a backcourt partner....who can forget him harassing a pair of future NBA guards (Overton and Woods) and that stationary shooter (Hurd?) into turnover after turnover in the second half of the La Salle semi final win. His full court passes were the best I've ever seen a Peacock guard throw.

Really just saying we will need to be patient with Hall, and its VERY early, but I like what I saw.
