Subject: Manhattan Game

Witnessed the game in person this afternoon. Once again Peacocks played well but failed to pull it out with the ball and the game tied with about 10 seconds left. After getting a stop the rebound kicked out to Nick Leon who rushed down court but instead of trying to drive on his man to the hole and get fouled headed for the sideline where he fumbled it to Manhattan in an unforced error. Don't want to be too harsh because Nick was outstanding today. He along with Ryan Bacon have elevated their game to another level making us competitive in any league matchup.
Wesley Jenkins found his shot in the first half but mostly lost it in the second half. Noticed he needed to have feet set and squared to the basket on his 3 pt shot. When he tried to take it coming around the elbow off a screen he couldn't make it.
Nevertheless he still played good defense and was tough on the boards when we went 3 guard.
Bacon was a force on the boards and defensively had 10 points today. Couldn't get his drive the way he did in the last 3 games as Manhattan doubled down on him when the entry pass was made. Many times Gooding's defender would slough off to double him as they gave Akeem the medium range shot which he only converted once.
Brandon Hall was very good against the press and continued to attack the defense instead of too much dribbling even converting a drive late in the game to tie it at 60. Problem with his lack of shot is at times he will try to make one pass too many causing a turnover when he is in position to finish a drive.
Jack Hill and CJ Reid saw significant minutes as well holding their own.Overall though the loss was a bitter one, we have to be pleased with the effort and the growth of this team. Wins will come with this type of defensive play.
We really need another consistent scoring option and one more interior player. One more note, Jordan Costner banged 2 open threes and made a great assist to Leon from the high post off a back door cut in the second half. Very happy to see his continued development as well. After the Leon turnover Manhattan threw it down court where Pearson hit a long jumper at the buzzer. The ball barely left his hand as the buzzer went off. I thought the shot was in time.
That said the Peacocks mostly got hosed down the stretch with chippy foul calls inside putting Manhattan on the line in the last 5 minutes especially on what looked like clean blocks by Bacon and Gooding.
This was a very winnable game. Interestingly the best big man in the game by far was Bacon. Manhattan's advantage was 3 solid scorers in Pearson,Austin and Smith.Hopefully Wesley steps up his shooting and gives us a reliable third option. Still feel we really need one more big guy{Conley} and a wing shooter or scorer to contend next year. Don't laugh we actually could do some damage if the right players are brought in with the last spots. I now feel a solid nucleous is there. We're still a bit offensively challenged and throw the ball away in key situations way too much,i wish they'd learn to be patient when they have the ball tied and a chance to throw a dagger in the other team instead of rushing the shot or committing an unforced error, but only a blind man would say no progress has been made.

Wasn't at the game and appreciate your report. Can't improve upon or disagree with any of your opinions or conclusions.
