True, expectations have been raised but they are not false expectations based on hope. If we watch the obvious talent level of our "big three" it is clear that those guys can compete with anyone in the MAAC, including Siena. Additionally, players like Brandon Hall, Jack Hill and Jordan Costner are showing improvement game by game. IMO next years performance will be determined by what Conley and Belin add to a pretty good set of pieces already in place. Perhaps the word should be cautious optimism.

Where I do agree with Gray Poll is that I have no idea how we will finish the season. We could win those winnable games or (I hope not) lose every single one of them. Our team is not strong enough individually to count on any win as a given. Yet win or lose, it wouldn't change my opinion stated before this year began, that we are but one or two players away from becoming a very good MAAC team

Oldtimer , another who seems to agree with you . JAM on Wesley , Ryan and Nick and tonight's game , they form "a nucleus that's as good as anybody in the league " . Maybe coachspeak to keep up the defensive intensity his team has played with recently , but still nice to read . We will have to match the intensity and have some shots fall to have a shot . There is a long way to go , but I do get more optimistic about Hill's upside over four years each game that we see him , however briefly .

jajk, thanks for the quote. Nice to hear - don't want to bask in reflected glory but the SPC blogger and now JAM are only saying what you and I, Cindy and all the rest (too numerous to mention) have either known from the get go or concluded at some point games ago.

You talked about Bacon and Jenkins even before they arrived. Why? Because you saw them play on many occassions and knew what they could do. After I saw Nick several times I knew he was a player. How good each of those guys would be, nobody is that smart to know until the face players in the league. No one is right all the time but I totally agree with the point you have always made, that's it's much better to have watched the players one talks about rather than read clippings or many of these so-called services who could not possibly see all the players they so confidently rate.

Regarding Conley. I have seen him play on several occassions but not as much as you saw Bacon and others. However, what I saw impressed me. Atleast, held his own with Bacon and appears to be a perfect fit. At least for now doesn't seem to have that big headed ego that wants the ball all the time, but rather a team oriented player who is an outstanding rebounder (size and position rather than ups), knows positioning, can run the floor very well for his size, and more of a face to basket player than Ryan (hence the good fit) etc. etc.
He will help! How much is still subject to watching Darius play in real competition. Ryan, Darius, Jack Hill, Belin,Costner and even Shumate make for one hell of a rotation up front. Coaches job is to put those pieces together. I like what I see.

Tonight’s opponent, Saint Peter’s, is tougher than its 6-16 record suggests. The Peacocks also beat Iona last week, then stayed with 11 points of Siena on Monday, no small feat.

A trio of sophomores, guards Wesley Jenkins and Nick Leon and forward Ryan Bacon, form “a nucleus that’s as good as anybody in the league,” Mihalich said.
