Subject: K Sutton Hoopscoop Rating.....

...is pretty low, per posting of the rankings of MAAC recruits on the Siena board.

KS fills a big hole in our roster at the "5".....no doubt about it....but this ranking, if at all accurate, indicates we may have to be patient and not expect too much too soon.

Given the other schools reportedly "interested" in KS, I am surprised just how far down the list he is.

We'll find out for sure in about six months.

Except for the top 50 or so players , those rankings are totally meaningless. For one example, Wesley Jenkins was not in the top 1,000 last year. I don't beleve that Anthony Nelsen of Niagara or the outstanding frosh guard for Loyola last year, his name slips my mind at the moment, were in the top 1000. Meanwhile many of the top 100 - 400 ranked guys did zilch in their first year. These rankings on a nationwide basis are useless compilations for those who know little or nothing about the sport and rarely ,if ever , go and see a high school game. The one state or metro area rankings have a lot more validity since they are done by guys and gals who have seen those players frequently against comparable competition.

ratings mean nothing / can a recruit play and contribute now and over time. Sutton & Conley can. Sutton at 6-9 234 lbs and athletic if just what we need. if rated too high we would never get him. Who cares about ratings anyway? Conley if he comes would sit out and play next year. At 6-6 225lbs he is skilled and possibly can grow in a year; his father is 7'

I agree. Only ranking i ever give any credense to is Tom Konchalski who the coaches use and subscribe to and actually sees them play in events all over the East. He had Sutton as a 4- prior to the injury and ended at 3+in final ranking but report said he was improving from the effects of the injuryand had upside. Any player in the 3+to 4's is very good at SPC.To give you an idea last player i remember we got in the 4 range was Randy Holmes.
KiKi was a 3 +. Arrosa was a 3 or 3+. Jasper Walker was a 3 etc. In last years class he ranked Jenkins highest of our recruits at 3+.
