John - If one journeys below they will find the same code words, framed rather conveniently into a seemingly populist, egalitarian tone that we have heard repeatedly through much of history.

Very alluring is the message in times of trouble, where frustrations and anger are easily captured by individuals who wish to channel and direct for their own self gain and control. One only needs to look at recent history (that which has thus far managed to escape the revisionists), to learn where this may lead us. Arguably extreme, but certainly valid examples include, The Czarist's colapse in early 20th Century Russia leading to the rein of Lenin/Stalin, the chaos and ensuing socialist's revolution" of the 1930's in economically-savaged Germany, the dictator Battista leading to the rise of a Castro Cuba. A more recent but fortunately less damaging event was the turmoil caused by the Nixon Watergate scandal which led to the election of one of the most imcompetent Presidents of our era, Jimmy Carter. Few here may want to be reminded of this dark period where we suffered under 20% interest rates , long gas lines, and an America that the world abused and perceived as weak, giving rise to the cleric zealots of the middle east.

Troubling to me now is the potential threat to our freedoms and individual liberties. With perhaps a veto proof Senate, a leftist administration with big government as their ally and weapon, appears bent under the guise of equality for all, on deciding what is best for us. Discussions are already underway amongst the Frank's, Reed's and Pelosi's of our Congress to limit speech and expression that they deem harmful and counter to their goals.

To name just a few that come to mind:

- The Fairness Doctrine, mandating that radio stations provide equal time for all political persuasions regardless of what the public demands or chooses. This translates to potentially banning those who's opinions they may abhor or not measure to their balancing standards.

- Another is the elimination of the secret ballot in union voting and selection. Long backed by union boses, this measure would require that all workers vote in open ballot, thus insuring that his choice be made under the scrutiny (intimidation), of the leaders.

- A sentiment (and vote), go beyond late term (3rd trimester), abortions to include the killing of children outside the womb where somehow the doctor has botched the killing and thus must again eliminate the child so that the mother's choice is fulfilled.

We are rapidly approaching a level where we will have more people choosing to have government do for them rather have us undertake the more challenging and riskier alternative of having to choose for ourselves. When this occurs, all initiative and independence will be lost, forcing us to become more dependent and under even greater control of big government. The despots among us will make their case with the customary euphemistic intoning we hear so repeatedly. Feel good cries such as; Who will care for the poor? How can we be so cruel to allow our young to starve? How can we exist in a society that doesn't provide the best medical care for all? Truth here is all of these inequities exist and likely always will to some extent, even in the most properous of societies. We as socially responsible individuals do have and must accept a responsibility to care for these less fortunate. However, the opportunity to best serve this often neglected segment is through private enterprise and by calling on man to recognize his duty through charitable endeavor. To look to big goverment for the answer here is only to dehumanize the process, make further remote, and find justification and excuse for not being our brother's keeper. This has not worked in the past and will not work in any future society.

Like you John, I am not a strong supporter of McCain. I believe he has been absent on the illegal immigration debate, has erred seriously on campaign funding (McCain-Feingold), and his education bill in concert with the now redoubtable one from Massachusetts, leaves much to be desired, and smacks of a sellout to the teachers' unions. On the other hand, however fruitless, I must remain a participant in the fray since I remain resolute in my distaste for socialism and the people that wish to promote and force it upon me.

...will be the generational change that will occur as BO, with the cooperation of a radical left majority, will alter the composition of the Federal Bench. He would likely, if elected, have the ability to appoint 2/3 Supreme Court Justices and a substantial number (450 is a number that comes to mind) Appelate Court Judges who will have no problem legislating from the bench in violation of the seperation of powers clause of our Constitution. p.s. Interesting to note that the Speaker of the House specifically exemted American Samoa from the Minimum Wage Bill. This creates a competitive advantage for a fish packing company in which her husband has a multi million dollar stock position. Doesn't do much for those low wage earners that Loyal and Peacock are so concerned about. p.p.s. Also note that the pitcher to catcher Barney of MA. was #3 man at FNMA and enjoyed the attendant financial benefits. All the while Barney had a Commitee oversight obligation over both FRE and FNMA. Maybe he was just supplying a little grease for the sausage he was getting.

A long list of potential appointees has already been gathered among those committed to reinterpreting the Constitution.

Lacking the current power to rewrite our document, they will "expand upon its meaning", bringing to the bench those jurists intent on relecting their own socialized agenda to bring about their view of the new world order.

A scary thought whether you are right or left. The more radical change one achieves under the cover of bigger government for accomplishing the greater good, the larger you run the risk of a more totalitarian form of governance, be it right or left.

Perhaps paradoxal to some, my wish is that those who are less tolerant and engage in distortion and innuendo will continue their attempts to mislead and malign the views of others. For without such behavior, we lose the opportunity to illustrate and expose such stupidity and ignorance. However misguided, all should have the right and opportunity to continue to make fools of themselves. Allowing acceptance of one's right to attack and insult, hopefully means that we are accomplishing our goal of limiting the powers of government to contol our rights of expression and free speech. This should be the aim of all.

I must have missed those classes at my beloved school where Ayn Rand for Dummies was required reading . The great novelist must be rolling in her grave at the drivel of some on this board . Embarrassing !
