From PSAL.org on Cyril Reid

"Significant Athletic Achievements:

strong, quick and tenacious defender when he wants too be. good outside shooter and rebounder will do all the dirty work to win

College Plans:

has scholarship offers

Significant Scholastic Achievements:

needs to get better

Coach’s Quote About the Player:

started every game as a jr on our finalist team last season. this kid can play every position on the court and will have a good season. has improved every season in the program."

Probably a good kid, but this year's class does not fill me with anticipation.

From CAA Insider on C.J. Reid:

"C.J. is an athletic forward. The lefty is a good finisher around the hoop, including after contact. He has a very quick crossover move and nice touch on his shot. C.J. is also strong and a very good rebounder. He can block shots as well."

Sounds skilled, maybe too small for a higher Division One level, but OK for the MAAC if his skills translate. Played good competition, at least.

Well, next year shapes up as another "developmental" (translate: play in round again) one, unless Conley is a monster and Reid + Hall contribute right away....which is an awful lot to ask of freshman.

Seems to me Reid will be competing for minutes with Hogga and Gooding....with Costner possibly buried. We'll see.

We'll know if Dunne has got the goods by '09-'10, when Jenkins and Bacon are juniors and this class are sophs.

Would love to "trade" one of our three 5'8" guards for another scholarship, but, let's see if anyone defects.

Loyal - "Defections" are sometimes difficult to assess and bear on the whimsical and capricious nature of the athlete who is easily influenced by other's always willing to extend their good counsel.

On the other side of the ledger, keep in mind that, despite a new ship being extended and accepted, an athlete must qualify academically in order for it to count.

up and till the kid does not meet that qualification which can be as late as summer school to get his GPA or as early as the last SAT testing period. However the school is held to it if an LOI is signed and the kid winds up qualifing. So if any more offers are made, it indicates either someone has given their intention to leave or the prognosis of academic failure is certain. In the first case releases must be given and generally it gets well known as the kids need to catch on with another school. I know of only once case where that might not be the need due to the issues involved. Just thought that might tickle your fancy.

School is committed unless kid formally announces his intentions otherwise.

From both ship options, nothing is certain at this moment.

BTW, did I misunderstand your liking of this incoming class?

Neutral on this class. Could surprise, but also disappoint. Last years class I really liked. Know very little on this class, but my real concerns lie more on other factors than the players.

Defections, non-qualifiers.

Thought you might be asking what was meant by Peacock....."but my real concerns lie more on other factors than the players".

If you don't know what I meant, then I have to assume all your potshots were made without thought.

Who among the four are non-qualifiers?

Just making light of your "transparencies".

One of the four has yet to qualify. Hope that narrows it down.

Based on PSAL performance, you could see hew way I lean. If factual, then Dunne better be certain as the slot is tied up for a period of time now.

If one uses past PSAL performance as the measure.

On the other hand, one has to ask the question; why would Dunne choose to extend his last and most recent ship, one presumably his most valuable, to someone who has yet to project?

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Re: Maybe -- Peacock, Tuesday, April 22, 11:49:24pm [1]

Rather simple. Many kids can not qualify until they get their final grades in June. They would have the SAT score but need a specifc average at the end of the year. Some are right on the cusp going into the last semester that projection is not a guarantee. However some are close enough to feel they will get it or if not, can be brought up to level through summer classes. I just don't think Dunne would take a chance on a kid that would not make it in the late period. Now of course a fall signing could also become a question, remember BK. Can't fault anyone there, and as you say the PSAL has a phenominal record of non-qualifiers, so I believe that Reid will be the case. But of course, you probably already know.

watching his game against Canarsie , announcer mentioned us as one of five schools being considered by his 6'9 team mate Sutton, also senior apparently. The other schools were all from stronger conferences, I think. If there's a spot, looks like good get.

Oops, a senior moment. That was two month ,or so ,old tape that I was watching. Sutton may well have committed since. Anyone know ?

According to Rivals, Kyrie Sutton signed with Boston College.

Still Dunne might be a fall back if he flops in the ACC.

Don't think BC offered. I believe he is not qualified as yet. The higher profile kid Imes is in same situation.
