Sounds like his parents are the big influence. Initially some very good reasons were given by Sutton and Coach Anderson for attending SPC. Basketball wise, significant playing time from the get-go and with what happened with Rider's big guy, a Conference with some visibility. On the academic side, the Business Program at SPC is one of our strongest. Manhattan, for example, while an excellent academic school was always primarily engineering oriented. Bottom line was that all the right reasons were there.

Would also have to believe that Sutton was/is looking higher than Binghamton, St. Bonnies etc. Couldn't blame him if he was considered A-10 or even Big East material. Word, however, was that if there was any interest in that direction those other schools were talking prep school rather than immediate playing time.

Finally, the time line of all of this interests me. Sutton visited and committed the weekend of June 14th. His verbal was confirmed by outside scources the following week. So does that mean he rethought things immediately and visited Binghamton the weekend of the 28th? Now we all know that verbals are non-binding but I guess that no one knew this better than the Binghampton coach. The comment that Dunne was suprised to see Sutton at Camp, if true, says more about the kid than I care to speculate. Would like to think that the staff, at least, had a heads-up about what was transpiring. Just goes to show you that college basketball recruiting/transferring is a dirty business.

One final thought. If Sutton is to make a decision on July 8th, the only schools we know he visited are SPC and Binghampton. Would have to think that that date is not solid or he's hoping for an upgraded status and an offer from a higher Conference. All uneducated speculation but an interesting story line nonetheless. Let's see how this soap opera plays out.

Makes sense.

Sutton probably is hoping for a higher offer. I also doubt St. Bonnies or Binghampton are our real "competition"....but that is a pure guess.

Hey, the kid is 18, made an impulsive decision and now has probably been advised to take one last chance to see if the big boys will come calling. It's unfortunate Sutton gave a commitment and is considering retracting that commitment if he gets a better offer.....but heck, we've all made worse decisions....and a lot later in life, too....but let's not go there. :>)

I would be very disappointed to lose him......but SPC was HIS CHOICE. Unless a biggie comes calling, it's a choice he will probably stick with if Dunne and Morton are effective.

Coach Dunne will be making a pitch for his career, IMO, when he calls on Mr. + Mrs. Sutton over the next few days. Without an effective presence in the middle, we are staring down the barrel at another 4-5-6 win season.
