All players receiving athletic scholarships sign a financial aid agreement with the school, even if they have also signed an NLI (the NLI does not include the financial terms of the scholarship, since the majority of athletic scholarships outside of basketball are not "full" scholarships).

Once the late NLI signing period ends, anyone who commits to a school would sign only a financial aid agreement with the school, in effect formalizing the commitment.

Up until that point, the verbal commitment is not binding either on the athlete or on the school.

On top of that, Binghamton was not free, under NCAA rules, to publicize the commitment in any way until there was a signed financial aid agreement.

So, any time you hear of a Division I school adding a "signee" after the end of the late NLI period, it means he signed only a financial aid agreement.

There were more than a few players at SPC who fell into that category when I was there (of course, we couldn't announce it, anyway).
