Subject: IT'S ALMOST BASEBALL SEASON

As strange as it sounds, St. Peter's has slowly become a baseball school. Under the watchful eyes of Derek England and Marty Craft, the Peacocks have assembled a nucleus of experienced, quality players that have every reason to contend for the MAAC Tournament this year.

Let's face it. The basketball program is in shambles. As a couple of posters have stated on this forum previously, if not for Keydren Clark, St. Peter's would be mired in a couple of decades of mediocrity, if that. One has to ask why the college has not kept pace with the resurgence of Jersey City and its proximity to New York City. It does not get much better than that in terms of opportunities. Nonetheless, it is what it is so for now, I suggest everyone focus some positive energy on the diamond. These guys deserve to be recognized and I fully expect them to make some noise this year. This is one program that deserves everyone's support!

No love for the softball team? they qualified for the tournament and had the biggest comeback in tournament history. Show them some love. Good luck in San Diego girls. Make us proud

Women's basketball. Softball. Men's soccer and now baseball.

No one denies that the administration has been, to say the least, disinterested in athletics but those that argue that the dismal performance of the men's basketball team is largely the result of that lack of administrative support must explain why these programs have been so successful in exactly the same environment.

The school has not been very supportive but in many cases coaches can be successful. Probably Granelli, the last two soccer coaches and the recently deceased softball coach showed that under the oppressive athletic management, success can be had. Now the current President can not be measured as yet as there is no such thing as an instant turnaround, but evaluation of the present coaches can be made independently of the administration. It would appear that some will never question a coach always choosing to remain in the little picture of the players. For whatever reason, questioning the competency of a coach does not mean you need to get rid of him as he too could change, but they refuse to even consider that. Therein lies the problem as they worry about the lack of a Point Guard and not the one who chose the players for that position.
