One tepid qualification....many of the other MAAC clubs (Niagara, Loyola, Rider) depend heavily on upperclassmen, so SPC should move up a few notches, just based on attrition.

However, Lampley and Bacon will have to make a quantum leap (it's possible) AND Dunne will have to bring in a ready-to-rebound-right-now player....if any significant improvement is expected.

Disappointing to read above Shumate is not ready for D 1 (based on that one opinion). We'll see.

Shumate is on a star studded team and would be putting up figures comparable to Conley's if he was on a normal high school team. He's still growing, has a good mid-range jumper, runs the floor well, blocks shots and can jump out of the gym. Shumate is very athletic and has good upside potential. I've seen him play and feel he has all the tools to be a solid D1 player.

My only scource of disagreement is that Bacon is already on the cusp. Aside from the fact that injuries have set him back, IMO he's ready to be a significant contributor. Was not at all intimated by Thompson in the Rider game and, it appears, has the confidence and game to be an important player in the league. What most of these guys need is experience and physical development. Some will be role players but this class includes atleast two blue chippers.

For those who have seen Conley and Schumate, are they physically developed? Not in terms of height but do they have the body to play the college game immediately? In this area both Costner and Bacon were lacking.

Agree with most of the above except he would not be putting up comparable numbers to Conley; agree up-side potential is great and all the physical features about him; however, very awkward on the offensive end being deliberate with limited footwork and no consistent mid-range jump shot to speak of. Defensively can play; and
immediate contribution may be on the defensive end.
However, when his skill level improves coparable to his physical tools he can be a dynamic player.

Saw both players; both have the body type to play div 1 college ball;

Shumate has a good build; runs the floor well; can rebound well; is quite athletic but very awkward in his movements especially when he tries to do something with the ball. Looks like he can add a few inches.

Conley is built solid at 6-6 225; thick from top to bottom. Real strong. Has offensive/defensive skills to contribute now.

Good discussion. A strong inside game will do more for our shooters than any X's and o's will ever accomplish. With all due respect to Todd, who gives great effort, this has been our major problem this year and for as long as I can remember. Fix that and things will change.
