Re: Worst Loss in Yrs -- oldtimer#1, Monday, February 25, 09:44:02am [1]
Agree about Lampley. Talk about player development and I'd cite Darrell as a good example. IMO he's gone from an often out of control, shoot first, pass if necessary type of player, to one who is trying to play the role of a team player. The bad news that we have to live with, is that his turnovers will probably increase (see Boston U game ). Hard to have too many turnovers when hoisting up all those shots. Think both the staff and Darrell deserve some credit. Dunne's decision to give Darrell the ball with only 4 seconds left was also the right coaching move. Agree with Cindy that both the team and staff looked better.
Two caveats. First, I'm not quite ready to call DL's transformation complete.Time will tell. Second, while he is squaring up better and making some shots he is still a low percentage shooter and one who has difficulty scoring when he penetrates. Not just referring to his missed open layup against Boston U ( shit happens) but that's the way it's been all year. The question, in my mind, is what are the staff's thoughts on a point guard.
Noticed that Iona signed Machado, the kid I liked, even though they have an overabundance of guards. Still no question in my mind that we need Machado's type of player to play point no matter how Nick and Darrell develop. However, if no such player becomes available Dunne might try to go next year with the guards we have. A mistake in my mind. Guess it all depends on what is out there. We still have holes to fill.
