Subject: A statement showing weakness in analysis
In reply to: loyal 's message, "Re: Brandon Hall signs with SPC" on Thursday, March 27, 11:32:14am

"Agree, those guys have forgotten more about hoops than all of us know." is the refuge of many who actually have no clue. It is akin to motherhood and apple pie. There are many coaches who know more than all of us and can't perform as a coach in any area. Every time I see these types of statements I see people who just can't post with regard to issues other than either blind faith, hope or mis-direction. Right in your back yard you have Thomas of the Knicks who has more knowledge than those here.

That aside, judge Hall not on what you see in his recruiting. He played in a league that has no respect and actually gets little notice. Where were all the experts on Clark or for that matter on Curry. Now I am not promoting him, but the reason used here are weak. He has his issues, and I have yet to see one person cite them here. He is rated as a D1 ball handler and passer, and D1 defender (very important), but lacking in shot. His shooting is rated as D2. It is amazing how everyone slights Mumford and I expect they will Hall, yet have never seen them play. Dunne is making his bed and so far has been pretty sloppy. Much is going to depend on the development of those types of players because until he puts some wins on the boards he is not going to get any moderate studs. For those who champion extensions have no clue that losing as Dunne has doe so far reduces your chances of getting the better players. So beware of what you wish for, as you could have six consecutive years of single digit wins.

And to your credit, you correctly point out that we should not be too quick to judge the kid, citing other under value's such as Clark and Curry.

On the other hand (witness the other shoe dropping), it would be appropriate, (rather than use this as another attack), to allow the same measure of tolerance and patience for our Coach.

I am not calling for his head yet, but I also don't defend what has been a rather abysmal performance where yourself and other basketball knowledgable people have gone to extreme lengths to defend him.

Also nice to hear your quick to judement comment when I do believe you have judged Mumford with nothing more than someone else's opinion with out you having seen him play.

Why turn an examination of Hall into another slam on Dunne.

No extreme attempt on my part to defend John. More an attempt to keep some from repeatedly blaming our ills on one person.

Your memory must be short. I merely reported the views of others, more informed, and who had witnessed the play of Mumford. Ironic that someone who only received news accounts of Leon's play in the PSAL Championships would beat the drums prior to his arrival.

Wonder which of us judgemental types will be proven right on each of these kids.

In your continuing attempt to blame others you refuse to accept the fact that your inability to even consider any comments on Dunne as valid is blatant. Other than simple concessions, you cause more problems for Dunne by trying to deflect what has been obvious.

You have also assumed an all knowing attitude about what my position is. Only the self proclaimed impartial, or should I say incapable people of limited judgments, citing the need for others to give it to you, shows how little you really know. In addition, I never touted Leon in the PSAL playoffs but praised him for his total seasonal play. And I did it again when I commented on Dunn's misuse of him throughout the whole season. Even a blind man could see he was not even adequate at the point. Also I did note before he played a minute that he was not known as a PG being replaced quickly by another early in his HS senior season.

You also practiced mis-direction as I have neither praised nor condemned Mumford but in your infinite wisdom you claim "Wonder which of us judgmental types will be proven right on each of these kids." Trouble is you don't practice what you preach. You form opinions of others lacking anything of your own making. I only advise waiting to see how they do, something you in your great judgment can't do with the performance you have seen so far on Dunne but jumped right in on passing judgment on Lampley very early in the season. I guess it was those more informed people that see him in practice that helped you in this matter.

Hell you even have used the basketball knowledge comment in an attempt to establish your position. When one lacks substance resort to non-sequitor comments. In that you are the KING. One need not wonder why the state of golf courses is your province of expertise and dominated so many of your earlier posts.

Peacock, although I agree with your assessment that Leon like Lampley is not a true point I question your statement that Dunne "misued" Nick last year. Given last years roster who would you have chosen to run point? A guy who had 85 assists and 91 turnovers (Leon) or a guy who had 48 assists and 72 turnovers (Lampley). A guy who shot .380 from the three or one who shot .294 from the three? While I totally agree with your assessment that we will not succeed with either at point, to criticize Dunne for misuse is not fair unless you can suggest a better alternative. And, by the way, Nick has taken more bashing (not by you) for his performance last year then he truly deserves. Better player than most give him credit for. My hope is that Brandon Hall is successful at point and that Nick and Darrell provide some quality minutes elsewhere.

The minutes don't add up, assuming BH becomes the point guard sometime before he is a soph.
Jenkins is the "2". Period. With that cornerstone in place, Lampley and Leon are being recruited over....there is no other way to spin it....not when our front line needs are so acute.
If Hall plays 25-28 mintues at the point.....where are the minutes for Leon AND Lampley AND Mumphord in their junior and senior seasons?
My suspicion is one of the guards is leaving.....or will leave after this signing.
Optimal outcome = BH is the real deal, another scholarship frees up soon and with the two left we get a scoring "3" and a solid "5".....hey, it's March....we can dream!
