Say a prayer Felician doesn't get in the mix. We'd be tempting fate, hoping to out-recruit them twice in a row.

If you are referring to my post , he was . As I said , they were just guesses if we were taking a chance on a player that might be eligible to improve in college. T he article says that his high school coach wants him to accpt scholarship offered by Div 2 Lock Haven while Elliott is still hoping for Div 1 offer. Article says CC , NH and St. Francis( NY) have shown interest but have not offered. Article also talks about his 6' 7" teammate Fryerson who has been "pursued" by Rider and Adelphi but may go JC route . Both played well the two times that I saw them - not sure thing Div 1 but I would not be upset with offer to either. KF looks like he is still growing and Elliott really seems like one of those 6'3 guys that we have specialized in over the years with some success.

...........Lock Haven is right on your heels!

WTF???

If our two spring signings have a total of zero other Division One offers, I may sink into a deep depression.

My only hope, JAJK, is that you are playing the 10 of us interested in SPC men's hoops.

May I ask the faithful one question, hoping for a direct answer, vs generalities?

WHO is going to score for us up front next season? In a related vein, how many open looks to we expect Jenkins to get, given zero ability to create shots or shoot a ten foot jump shot from the "3", "4" and "5" positions?? We and Wesley will learn the meaning of o-v-e-r-p-l-a-y pretty quickly next November.

I'll say it again...Bobby Knight could not win in the MAAC with the front line we will put on the floor next season....no dribbling, passing or jump shooting skills from any front line position....almost forgot.......below average rebounding, unless Conley is a monster.

If there is a method to JD's recruiting process, it has escaped me.

Fellow Peacock fans, we are in deep s**t.

While neither is a jump shooter you underestimate Gooding as a passer and athleticism, and i think Bacon showed flashes of ability to score inside as well. Notice his best scoring games seemed to occur when Sowell was out of the lineup as more space to operate inside was created.
Akeem will score more as he did frosh year if we play more transition and less half court jump shooting game where his drives are cut by defenders sloughing off guarding low. He also showed a first nascent sign of starting to shoot the 10 foot jumper late in the year.
Let's see what develops at the last spot. Perhaps Connelly is the presence we need inside at the last spot. I do admit we are small but perhaps the lack of offensive flow al season was not just coaching but lack of point guard play. Let's see what develops before we totally lose hope.

I agree that either improvement by Leon/Lampley and/or the arrival of Hall offers some hope for improved point guard play next season.
However, realistically, it's a lot to expect that Hall, not being recruited by any other D 1 programs, will play effectively as a frosh. Leon/Lampley showed few signs of being able to handle the point.....as is evidenced by JD's recruitment of Hall. No way JD figured a year ago this time he'd be pounding the pavement and using a valuable scholarship for a PG.
So, I am not sure where significantly improved PG play is likely to come from.
Will also offer neither Gooding nor a player possessing Conley's likely frosh skills would get much time on top division MAAC clubs (no floor time at all on last year's Marist, Rider, Siena, Loyola or Niagara rosters, for example).
As the roster is currently constituted....with our "1", "3" and "5" PROJECTED STARTER spots being maintained by players who would get very marginal, if any, playing time on first division MAAC club.....there is a strong probability we are in for a long, long season....I suspect only Jenkins (30 min?) and Bacon (20-25 min?) would get significant time on a first division MAAC team.
A ray of hope for me would be if this year's incoming class contained another Jenkins quality player, or even a Bacon (high potential) player.
My guess is only one of Leon/Lampley/Mumphord will be hear in a year....so other scholarships may open up. I think that is our only hope to be good anytime soon. We'll see.

The issue is not going to exactly who will score but who will be in a position to score. Not one has thought about the fact that we lose two glaciers in our offense. While one can give Sowell credit for his rebounding, he also gave away many points with slow movement and hands of stone. No need to debate this point, but our team as constituted will need a much different style than the simplistic one of last season. The measure of next season to just get out of single digits wins will be how diverse our offense will attempt to be. If the talent is not their, so be it, but if we have the same style of last season where many posters had to become creative to tell us that it was there, then we will be doomed even if we had Siena's roster.

"If the talent is not their"

Of course the talent will be there.

I am not sure what type of offensive style can generate points from a front line of Bacon, Conley and Gooding.

Not sure any of the three can dribble or shoot from outside, or post anyone up, for that matter, unless they completely morph their game during the off season...or unless Conley is a superstar as a frosh.

I struggle to imagine how their skill sets fit into any type of half court offense. Every offense I know needs players who can, at the very least, pass and shoot....or pass and dribble. A transition offense (see Siena, Niagara) requires a "3" that can shoot from outside...who might that be on next years roster for us?

I think we are left with only blind faith as an option.

Let's hope we get a pleasant surprise (or two?) April 16th.

you respect Gooding or Bacon. I am not even sure what would turn your head, as most players are nothing more than names when recruited. When one dissecects most of your posts, the only option would be blind faith or lack of same in the coaches.

Jenkins turns my head. :>) Bacon's potential (not his play last year) intrigues me.

Bacon and Gooding averaged about 4-5 points per game each, during about 22 minutes of play, on average...with defenses collapsing on Sowell. Will they need to collapse on Conley? If not, will Bacon and Gooding be challenged even more offensively?

Unless they morph into completely different offensive players, it's hard to see how they will become significant scoring threats next season.

Bacon has lots of upside rebounding and defensively. Scoring? We'll see. Not sure if Gooding has any upside, unless he can shoot a 12 footer consistently. I think Akeem is at best a 7th/8th man on a good MAAC roster.....just my opinion.

You may be right about the coaching scheme; I don't know. I do think there is a severe lack of offense on next years roster. Jenkins will be taken out of many games by defenses focused on our one pure scoring threat. We will need Bacon, Gooding or Conley or Leon to score 20 ppg. for us to win on any given night. Think that is a realistic possibility, bases on what we've seen so far?

I do agree the same person shopped and is preparing the meal, so the responsibilty has to be placed squarely on JD if we have another play-in year.

So far, two play in years plus a bleak outlook next season = a two year extension.

Depressed yet? I am.

Let's hope the one left plus some defection scholarships used wisely can pull us out of the hole we are in.
