Texas Rivals:

Mark down Jack Hill as another unsigned senior spring success story. Out of Fort Bend Elkins High School, the lanky 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward was getting lightly recruited. But after some solid performances in the April evaluation period, interest started to pick up. Hill focused in on one school in the process, and when he took an official visit to that program late last week, he knew it was the right place for him.

On Jim Hicks' The Basketball Show on Monday night, Hill and his mother signed his letter-of-intent with St. Peter's. "I had given them a tape and after they watched it the same day they got it, they called me," Hill said. "About two weeks ago, two of their assistants came to visit me and saw me play at Kingwood. We scheduled a visit, which I took last Thursday and Friday and I was hoping for the best."

"I liked the campus and the school, and I've always wanted to go to school on the East Coast," Hill continued. "They offered me, and I knew it was the place where I wanted to be."

Hill's mother went on the trip with him to New Jersey and everything checked out with her as well. Off the court, the fit was just right - as it was on the court as well. "I'll be able to play my game there," Hill said. "Since I'm always the tallest guy, I've always been stuck on the block. There, I'll still be the tallest guy but I won't be glued on the block. I'll be able to step out. I just need to keep working on my strength and my shooting."

Mercer, East Tennessee State, Southern University, and Howard were some of the other programs recruiting Hill, but after his trip to St. Peter's - his first in the process - there was no longer a need to visit anywhere else.

Texas Hoops Analysis: JACK is a long and active paint player who finishes well around the rim. He has nice moves off the low block, and has an unusual release on his shot but is effective from 10-12 feet. He runs the floor well, is a good rebounder, and can contest and block shots in the paint.

There is no joy in Johnson City, TN tonight...thousands of Buccaneer fans undoubtedly crying in their beer....maybe they can partner and form a support group with Felician? :>)

A 6'8" guy who has to send tapes in April doesn't inspire confidence, but undiscovered gems do turn up once a decade or so; let's hope!!!!

Well, at least it's a front line player. Bacon will need all the help he can get rebounding and playing defense inside. I still can't imagine where points are going to come from up front, short of Divine intervention.

Let's hope like heck Bacon take a quantum leap forward and Shumate and Hill are very fast learners.

Loyal will probably be elated ,and agree that out recruiting East Tenn. St. is even better than Felicean.
Looks like staff is casting a wide net...good work.

Great kid, great mother. Or is the proper sequence great mother, great kid.

Does Regis Devonish get a shout out here? He was probably the Regis mentioned here who forwarded the DVD to the coaching staff.
