JERSEY CITY, NJ (June 2, 2008) – Patrick Elliott will become the sixth director of athletics in Saint Peter’s College history on Tuesday in an 11:30am press conference scheduled for the McIntyre Room of Dineen Hall on the College’s campus in Jersey City, NJ.

Elliott replaces Bill Stein who is retiring after serving as the institution’s director of athletics for the past 26 years.

“Patrick Elliott is the right person at the right time to lead Saint Peter’s College Athletics to the next level,” stated Saint Peter’s College President, Dr. Eugene J. Cornacchia. “I am confident he appreciates the central importance of keeping the right balance between academics and competitive athletics, of instilling in our student-athletes a commitment to good sportsmanship and integrity, and the College’s desire to see Athletics play a greater role in the life of this community.”

Elliott comes to Saint Peter’s after serving as the senior associate athletic director for finance, planning and operations for four years and the associate athletic director for planning and internal operations for one year at St. John’s University in New York City.

While at St. John’s, Elliott was responsible for administering the annual budget, facility enhancements and multimillion dollar agreements with Madison Square Garden and Nike, Inc. He was also instrumental in the development of the master plan for the athletic capital campaign and the five-year department strategic plan.

Elliott also served as the associate director of athletics for finance and operations for two years and the assistant director of athletics for facilities and operations for five years at Seton Hall University before joining the St. John’s staff.

At Seton Hall, he was responsible for managing the operating budget and overseeing the $8 million facility enhancement project. Elliott also assisted the development office with the implementation of athletic event planning.

“His experience as an athletic administrator, athlete, and coach; his proven integrity; his enthusiasm for working collaboratively across the College to develop the “whole student-athlete”; and his vision for enhancing spectator support for all sports - all speak to why Patrick Elliott is the perfect fit for the Saint Peter’s community,” remarked Dr. Eileen Poiani, Saint Peter’s College vice-president for student affairs and chairperson of the athletic director search committee. “Our Athletic Department and I look forward to working with him.”

Elliott is a 1989 graduate of Seton Hall University, earning a bachelor of science degree in management and industrial relations. He went on to earn a master of arts in education degree in 1992 while he was serving as a men’s basketball assistant coach, a position he held for five seasons at Seton Hall.

Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City. The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and also offers courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.

Welcome aboard, Patrick! Best of luck getting things headed in the right direction.

I like the "young, hungry" route vs. the "experienced, is there a pulse?" route we could have taken.

Mr. Cella, might this be reason for optomism? :>)

At first blush I am not impressed. Nice resume on finances but nothing on selecting coaches, managing people or running an athletic department. In time we will know but right now I am skeptical.
