Let's not get so negative all of a sudden. We have to remember that the freshman have only played 15 games so far. In a league in which success depends on solid guard play, we have 3 freshman guards in our backcourt seeing significant minutes. Also, there's no veteran guard (I consider Orta closer to a forward) on the team to help Leon, Lampley, and Jenkins, so they're learning on the job. I think many of the posters underestimate the value of experience. 7 of our losses have come by 5 points or less and another was a loss in overtime in which we let the game slip away. These guys just need to learn how to close out games and win.

As for Coach Dunne, let the man do his job. When he came in last year, he took over a team that had many of its deficiencies covered up by the greatest player in the school's history. We were really a 4-8 win team that became a .500 team because of one player. Many of the players that remained didn't belong on a D1 level and those who did had many faults that we may have not noticed in the past. It's gonna take time to rebuild this team, so stay patient. When we went to the MAAC finals 2 years ago, Manhattan and Iona were by far the best 2 programs in the league. They have as many MAAC wins as we do this year. That's just how it works.

If anyone expected this team to win more than 8 MAAC games, your expectations were unrealistic. This team is built for the future, so give the players a chance to develop. In the words of the late Al McGuire, "The best thing about freshman, is that they become sophomores."

You have to realize that most Peacock fans are in the September of their years. There isn't much time for a lot of these people to be patient. A lot of these guys are one tingly left arm away from a meeting with the school's namesake.

Considering the venom most might not make it upstairs.

Strikes me that we are beginning to sound like some other riduculous boards attacking each other and puttimg words in other posters mouths just to look smart. Can't speak for others but I have been a consistent supporter of John Dunne from day one, have said so and continue to feel the same way. However, I respect the opinion of posters on the other side of the issue. I'd rather hear them out then put them down,

As far as our freshmen are concerned some will do fine, some will not. That is the nature of any sport. Some of us have consistently stated that a Program is not built with one recruiting class ( patience ). However, to take offense when a poster, in good faith, suggests recruiting this or that type of player to fill obvious needs is foolish. Likewise, failing to acknowledge that our offense is not in cinque is just putting one's head in the sand. Reality is seeing what's there, not what you want to believe. Hope John and staff fix the problem.

You cannot equate football with 22 starters and over 85 man roster with basketball..Dukiet took a 10 win team which had won 8 the year before to 22 wins, which included 2 wins in the NIT. Granted it was a more experienced team`but he did turn the program around in one year.At this pace it looks like Dunne will need at least 2-3 yrs.I hope he can do it.+

lousy personality for the players. He knew the game. Did not finish out his tenure at SPC with anything to crow about.

Lets not jump on Dunne as yet, but he certainly needs to reflect on the state of what he has done so far. It is a season and a half and he is a little a head of Leckie in the same time period, but you must remember that Leckie had no clue or experience in coaching D1 ball for his first couple years.

I disagree about Dukiet.I think after 7 yrs and 135 wins he did very well for SPC. He never had a losing year and his last 3 teams won 23,15 and 16 games.

He didn't want to be here. Interviewed all over the place. Was downgraded by Eastern Basketball after his high praise in his earlier years. Yes he was a good coach, but he didn't give SPC his best in his last couple years. And if you don't remember the Dana affair at BC, you didn't understand his devotion to SPC at the time.

I guess even at less than his best he was still very good.I was never an insider at SPC and all I remember is Dana's name. I guess you win again!!

If he had a better disposition he probably would have been gone from SPC earlier. Had a tremendous D2 career but also ran into personality problems at Gannon. Not a situation for winning, just discussing.

It's generally agreed that it takes a full five years to develop a successful athletic program (eg: Rutgers football program). Most of it is because the new players have to adapt to the new coach's techniques and methods of coaching. Most of this season's players are raw, untested rookies. It's going to take at least two more seasons for the team to gel and vie for that trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Peacock fans should sit tight and be patient. The 2010-2011 season is actually not that far off. I'll predict now that that will be when SPC returns to the big dance and even win a game or two there.

(The time will fly by fast. It seems just like yesterday when Mr. Clark scored his 44 points in 2002 against Northern Arizona.)
