Pokemon is here with a vengance. But my kids aren't into it. They only have a couple of hologramme cards out of chip packets and I forced myself to buy my daughter a Pikachu in a ball at Movie World because her friend at school who is really into Pokemon didn't have one of those and she wanted to surprise him by having one of her own. Apart from that I have shielded them from Pokemon. Sometimes I let them watch the show but it is quite rare. Pokemon is banned from most schools as is every other fad that involves games and dealing , winning and losing with cards. My kids are only young so it is easier to shield the from fads. I am not the sort of parent who gives in to demands for the latest thing. No doubt I will be branded as a mean mother one day.
My 12 yr old cousin who lives in Sydney has her own Pokemon dealing stall at one of the shopping centres where her artist father sells his paintings. She has clients all over Sydney who flock to her stall to wheel and deal in Pokemon paraphanalia. They even ring her up for certain cards or to find out who they can get a certain card from. She has a mobile phone and seems to be becoming a bit of an entrepeneur.
I wonder what the next fad will be?
