Arcadia
I realize this ep has its detractors (Det, if I remember correctly, you can't stand it) but I enjoyed it. Yes, it's kind of a cheesy ripoff of those 80s mystery/comedy/romance shows (i.e. "Moonlighting", "Remington Steele," "Scarecrow and Mrs. King", etc.) that CC was always swearing he *wasn't* doing, but I liked those shows and I liked this ep of XF. It was fun to see Mulder and Scully's make-believe marriage and this was one of the relatively few season six eps where we actually got to see them working side-by-side throughout the whole ep. (In "Triangle" Mulder mostly interacted with "1939 Scully" who had no idea who he was; in the "Dreamland" eps, Scully mostly interacted with a "Mulder" really Morris Fletcher; in "Tithonus", Scully was in New York City while Mulder was in Washington D.C.; in "Drive" Mulder was on the road while Scully was back at police headquarters, etc.) The episode also made some good points about how people's desire to conform can sometimes override their compassion and common sense. Also, damn it, "Rob" was just *incredibly* sexy, especially in the "stripping of his shirt" and "bring it on" scenes!
One other amusing note about this ep: Googaluck (the homeowner's association president) pointed out that Mulder would sound "crazy" if he actually went to court and tried to make a case based on his suspicions that Googaluck was causing the mysterious disappearances by summoning a mind-created monster. I wonder if Mulder himself ever stopped to consider the fact that he's a federal law enforcement officer and that -- regardless of whether or not his investigations brought him closer to "the truth" -- unless he can build a case that will stand up in court, he's not really doing his job?
