These were good mytharc eps.
In "PX" we got to meet the rest of the Spender family and there was a lot of Krycek. I'm not really a huge Krycek fan, but even I have to admit he looked yummy in this ep. It does raise some huge questions about the relationships between the Mulder and Spender families back in the 1960s and 70s though. Mainly this: If these people were such great friends and spent so much time together back when the boys (Fox Mulder and Jeff Spender) were children, why is that nobody recognizes anybody when they meet up again in the 1990s?? Jeff Spender can kind of be excused, as apparently he was a quite young child in 1972 (the year of Samantha's abduction and Cassandra Spender's first abduction, which seems to be when the great falling out between the two families occurred). But shouldn't Mulder (who is supposed to have such a great memory) have remembered that, up until the time he was 12-years-old, his parents were good friends with a couple named Spender, who had a little boy named Jeffrey? And what about Cassandra? How many people has she ever met named Fox?? Didn't it ever occur to her that the grown-up FBI Agent Fox Mulder *might* be the same Fox Mulder she'd known when he was a child and she was a young wife?
"The Red and the Black" is one of my favorite "overlooked" eps. Nobody ever mentions it on top ten lists, but it's a terrific episode. Mulder displays a lot of tenderness toward Scully throughout it. And I *LOVE* how she reaches for his hand to give her security while she's under hypnosis. . .I think it shows how much she needs him, even though she won't normally admit it.
