Well, we have just had two really stressful days in the World Community and I imagine we are all reeling a bit today. I have trouble eating, sleeping and last night I started crying out of the blue.

I belong to two online communities...this one and the one for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I wrote the following in response to the people who felt "Bad or ashamed" because they wanted to take a break from the tragedy and go back to our original discussions on the board.

Nice to think about happy things for a minute, Sabrina! And sort of OT, and REALLY not to cause debate but I wonder if it is a good thing for the American Psyche to have such blanket media coverage. In my line of work I must constantly address the Catastrophic Events and when I get home it is on every station, every internet site, and on everyone's mind. And, don't get me wrong, it SHOULD be foremost in our minds but I wonder if the constant barrage of data is burning out our sensitivity to this ATROCITY.

What I mean is when I witness the on-going pain and suffering of my fellow Americans I do feel frivolous and even guilty for thinking about anything else but our Nation's Nightmare. But I also believe that psychologically Human Beings are not designed to endure this kind of UNENDING stress. And I have to wonder if the 24/7 barrage of horrific images and wild speculation is really HELPING anything or anybody.

I can only speak for myself here but there is not a SNOWBALL'S CHANCE IN HELL that I am going to FORGET how horrible this ALL is. I need the news media to give me VALID INFORMATION during this crisis. What I DON'T need is a media feeding frenzy(to see who can get the most gut-wrenching angle on the wreckage or the most emotionally drained rescue worker or family member waiting for word of a loved one) or a series of talking heads endlessly debating how ANGRY, SAD or FRIGHTENED we all are or should be at this moment.

So, what I am saying is I am giving myself a break here to do something normal(even frivolous)because I can feel myself growing NUMB. And, speaking again only for myself, the ONE thing that I think is truly DISRESPECTFUL of the lives lost and the people still suffering in this tragedy is for me to grow so familiar with the HORRIFIC images that they no longer shake me to my foundation.

Rabid/Raeann
who continues to pray for our lost lives, our survivors, our Nation and the Leaders of our World.
