The Mayor shrieks. "I didn't say you could start a boarding house!"
Scully99 tosses the little pink handbag to Bubba and pulls an enormous black carpetbag from beneath her coat. She rummages around for a minute and puts on a tiny pair of gold glasses. A few more digs, and she pulls out a contract. "Ahem! According to section 1,265, paragraph 3, in my town contract it says "...every resident must decide on a job within the first 24 hours or s/he will be assigned a job by her Highness, the Mayor."
The Mayor stares at her aghast, but Scully99 isn't finished. She glances at the large men's watch she wears on her dainty wrist. "And according to my calculations, I've only been here 23 hours, 45 minutes, and 16 seconds."
Kande, KS, and Sheriff Stardoe stop fighting for a minute and watch the Mayor warily. The Sheriff tucks her shirt back in and her hovers over her revolver nervously. KS puts on a pair of sunglasses and watches impassively, while Kande takes a large step backwards towards the safety of the bar.
The Mayor sniffs. "So it is. Well, then, that's it. We have ourselves a boarding house in Shipperville."
Everyone lets out a collective sigh of relief. Kande claps Scully99 on the back and offers her a congratulatory snack.
Just as everyone turns to get a draw of rootbeer, the Mayor clears her throat.
"There is just one little eensy thing," she starts with a small tinkling laugh.
Scully99 sighs and puts her bag on the stool next to her. "And that would be?"
"I hope you've started planning what you're going to get me for Christmas, now that you're a resident," the Mayor informs her. She glares at the rest of the crowd. "So far, only CW and KS are in the clear with that one."
"But Mayor, there's still 11 more days until Christmas!" Kande protests but then clamps her hand over her mouth.
"And some of you need to buy me two." The Mayor looks pointedly at Kande.
