As long as we're talking about variations, let me tell you about Pittsburgh steak sandwiches. They are not to be confused with the famous Philly cheesesteak. Pittsburgh is very industrial so a long time ago (that could be 10 years or 50 years, I don't know the history that well) a sandwich shop called Permanti Bros. that was located near where all the trucks parked in Pittsburgh created a sandwich that truck drivers were able to hold in one hand while they drove. It was a steak sandwich on a roll with french fries and cole slaw on the sandwich. And it is SO good. Permanti Bros is now a chain, so if you're ever in Pittsburgh, you have to try one. They are the best.
