Who is the original source of Brian playing on the Nico track?

I haven't the foggiest idea. I'm not the one who brought it up. I never even knew about this until someone posted that video on this board a couple of years ago.

Possibly. There's no way to know for sure one way or the other. Neither Brian nor Nico is around anymore to confirm or deny this.

Of course that doesn't mean he knew every musician that played on every track - but Brian?

ALO was a lot more interested in the publicity aspect of managing than he was in the actual production of the music, even if he was officially "producing" the Stones' albums. He may very well not have know about who played what on which album because he most likely didn't care.

Another thing that is just occurring to me is that even if ALO knew about this, Brian's abilities as a musician were admired by his contemporaries, so his playing on Nico's record may have been seen as perfectly natural and acceptable to ALO.
