ALO was a lot more interested in the publicity aspect of managing than he was in the actual production of the music, even if he was officially "producing" the Stones' albums. He may very well not have know about who played what on which album because he most likely didn't care.

Did you ever read ALO autobiographies? He remembers quite a bit about recording sessions and talks a lot about other recording artists who he worked with on records.

I agree he was more into publicity than production at first, but I think he was getting more into production as time went on - even though he never turned into a wonderful, influential producer. He was also very influenced by Phil Spector and was trying to model himself after him as a producer. Phil Spector did the 'Wall of Sound' and Andrew did 'Impact Sound'. Don't forget he did the ALO Orchestra ablums and he produced a lot of different artists as well, and started his own record label - Immediate Records.
