So Mandrax were downers? I did some research and I saw how popular they were for awhile in the 60's and 70's in some parts of the world to this day. I read they could make you "black out" without remembering anything from the previous day like having too much alcohol. Same kind of thing?

I have read that the different pills Brian started to take around this time really took their toll and damaged him in such a way that he never fully recovered. Of course, he was under a lot of stress but it sounds as if he just did not give a damn. In his defense, he did not have the knowledge of knowing what kind of damage all of those pills, LSD etc... WERE doing to him. The medical profession did not know what they do today (obviously). So the question is, if Brian KNEW then what we know now, would he have fallen down the same slippery slope?
