Clapton must have taken Hendrix' criticism to heart, because after leaving Cream he developed into a pretty decent rhythm player. Hearing The Band's "Big Pink" album reportedly changed Clapton's approach to guitar playing altogether, and he quickly got away from long solo jams to being a guitarist who played primarily to compliment the song.
