This brings to mind another recent flight. There was an empty seat between me and the woman in my section (I was in the aisle and she had the window seat). Shortly after takeoff she confided in me that she was frightened by whoever was seated behind her and wanted to move to the middle seat next to me; she claimed the person was punching the back of her seat. I looked back and saw a large man (not fat just big) who was crammed into this small space and he looked like he was about to go postal. I told her it would best for her to move to the seat next to me and the rest of the flight went well.

Everyone needs their own personal space. You combine the stress of travel with no personal space and it's a nightmare waiting to happen.
