Pam, Brian only missed four shows in the US, all in Nov. 1964 (from 11 Nov. to 14 Nov.), all in the Midwest. (In Chicago on 15 Nov he was back on stage.) He never missed another US show, and previously he missed six shows in 1963 because of illness and one show in 1964 (Ronettes tour), because he didn't arrive on time due to heavy fog. He didn't miss ANY other Stones show, including radio and TV, until he left the band in June 1969.

That's all there is about the "Brian is ill again" issue. It was heavily debated in Nov. 1964; for example Brian was asked about it on "Ready, Steady, Go" when they were back in England. To this day Keith keeps the issue alive, it seems to be a trauma for him to be left alone on stage as the only guitarist. That's understandable, because Keith used to hit a lot of wrong notes when playing live.

Bill says in "Stone Alone", after discussing Brian's growing frustrations within the band at the start of the first US tour of 1965: "Needless to say, he never missed a gig or a recording session." (p. 372, paperback edition)

Well, not completely true about the gigs, but altogether Bill puts the whole issue, that still dominates Brian's image with Stones fans without a clue, in the right perspective. (By the way, even John Lennon missed three Beatles shows in 1963 because he was ill.)

Sioux, many thanks for sharing Brian felt so emotional about "That's How Strong My Love Is". I love the studio version; but the bootleg version I was talking about just blew me away when I first heard it and still does so. Mick's vocals are just brillant and Brian plays the organ in a way that seems to illustrate what the song meant to him, it's pure soul, one of my most favourite Brian part of all.
