Linda Lawrence talks about it on page 71 of Aftel's book. Linda says, " When he got upset, violence came out, but afterwards he would feel guilty and act extra nice. I never felt that he was cruel, but that he was releasing something instead; that something from his past had made him angry." Whatever that something was.....

Keith is a puzzle. His RS interview from 1971 vs his book Life? I thought people were supposed to mellow with age.
