I just finished it. It is essentially a scholarly textbook study of the musical roots, significant historical and cultural events, peer and business relationships, and inner dealings of the band. Mix them together in a cauldron called "experiences" and serve it up as Beggar's Banquet. There is little that is new. There is a sketchy account of each song and its development, but nowhere as detailed as the title suggests. The treatment of Brian is the reported line -- essentially he was an unreliable, drugged-out paranoid who became a liability and died alone in his pool of misadventure from a combination of asthma medication, tranquillizers and liquor. There are some interesting things here. You do pick up some fun facts about the 60s music scene.
