Yeah, those pics are not too kind. Anyway, I feel that Brian really loved Anita much more so then anyone would admit. Again, my opinions are based on a couple of different books (Stone Alone and The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones). In Stone Alone, Bill states that Brian "was never the same" after Anita left Brian. In "The True Adventures" Stanley Booth mentions a story told to him by Brian's Dad while he was visiting his son at Cotchford Farm. They were in a room going through some old things when Brian came across a picture of Anita and Brian's Dad described the scene as if Brian forgot his Dad was even in the room. The only word Brian said was "Anita". Brian soon realized what he was doing and they went about their business. But when Brian's Dad says things like that (how much Brian loved Anita etc...) then I believe it.

Too many people state that Linda was Brian's true love but I have always been under the impression that Anita was Brian's "true love". There are old quotes by Brian stating as much when rumours were circulating that they were close to getting married and Dylan was going to be Brian's best man. Brian's music in "Degree of Murder" was completely dedicated to Anita... I could go on and on but for the first year they were together I believe Brian was truly happy. After that then things started to go downhill for them (for various reasons).

Ultimately, in retrospect, Anita defecting to Keith was the last nail in the coffin for Brian and Anita. Brian's tenure with The Rolling Stones, for that matter. But I still do not blame her for what happened... I blame Keith. Anita, herself, has said it was not her that destroyed Brian but Mick/Keith and I think she is right. I am not defending her, in anyway, but she was there and Brian fell for her. Pure and simple.

It's just a complete tragedy that Brian's "true love" and his "best friend" in the band he created both turned against him. No wonder Old Spice comments about Brian "crying alot". The man was in a lot of pain and lost his two best friends and ultimately his band in one instant. Anita and Keith both turned against Brian (remember Brian, Anita and Keith were practically living together for the period leading up to the Redlands drug bust) and claimed HE was the Monster(Demonised)!! Keith had to save Anita, blah blah blah... what pure bull****!! Brian should have left the Stones right there and then. Perhaps, he would still be alive today if he had. I would not have blamed him one bit. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that?

George
