Though I never bought any of the post-Brian Stones records, I always enjoyed hearing them on the radio during the Taylor era. At that time they were still the trend-setters. They were no longer a Rhythm and Blues band, but the 70's were a transition period where a LOT of new types of music styles were introduced.

By the Ron Wood era, I felt they were just another hard rock band...though a very GOOD one. Ronnie is a fabulous hard rock guitarist, but I can't quite consider the Stones to be Heavy Metal. They wouldn't have been able to play in the same room with Bon Jovi, Arrowsmith or White Lion in those days...but that's JUST MY OPINION! I hope I don't get slammed to hard for that! I'm a Heavy Metal fan.

Anyway, the only Stones album of the Brian era that was a total bomb is never mentioned here..."Their Satanic Majesties Request." Though it has "She's a Rainbow" and "2000 Light Years from Home", it's basically a copying of the Beatles' "St. Pepper" album...and NOT a good copy either. Brian hated it. How could the Stones set any trends copying the Beatles? It's rumored he argued heavily, without success, with Oldham, Jagger and Richards that the fans would overall reject it. They didn't listen to him, to their cost. The fact that he'd been right on that is often cited as the reason for the deep resentment of him by the "unholy trio".
