My take on it has always been that Keith had realized excactly what scumbags that Keylock and Thorogood and their crew were. Instead of just getting rid of them once and for all, as a cruel joke, they were passed off onto Brian, especially after knowing that Frank or Tom had already ripped Keith off (if the second set of furniture story is true). I'm sure they didn't inform Brian about the furniture.
