Good points, stardoe. I used to take Tae Kwon Do classes and spared with women occasionally. Even if they were higher ranked than me, they were often saying "take it easy on me." When the boys spared, then you saw some crazy fighting. Boys on girls, the boys would be too worried that they might hurt the girls and let them win.

Some shows have the martial arts/bad ass woman have super powers so she can take a hit to the face without having her jaw broke (Buffy, the Bionic Woman, new Terminator show, River in the Serenity film, etc.).
