There's a big difference when someone is making a tv biography with good intent and an intentional hate piece. If a positive biography doesn't exactly follow the true story that's okay. I was watching a bio movie on Mark Twain the other day and I doubt if it followed his life too closely. Basically they got the gist of things and threw in a lot of his famous quotes.

Now it's quite another thing to deliberately set out to defame a person, especially one who is still alive and ailing. This was meant to be a mean smear piece. Les Moonves saw a rough cut and was very angry stating that this wasn't the movie they'd ordered. That reaction can hardly be called caving in to pressure.
I understand your feelings againast censorship, I'm against it too, but in this case the network didn't get the film they wanted and had every right to pull it. This was a deliberate attempt to create an anti Reagan piece full of untruths. The LA Times had an article the other day detailing the chain of events and although public outcry played a part, there were other factors involved as well.

I also don't feel a tv bio should just be able to be as irresponisible as it wants to be and claim it's okay because it falls under entertainment.

Life of Brian is a completely different situastion. Bibical events can not be proven and the principle players are not alive. But mostly, it was a comedy and didn't present itself as a biography.
