Subject: Fall TV Schedule: ABC's New Shows

Since we mentioned new falls shows, thought I'd provide a rundown of the new fall season so we can discuss what sounds good and what sounds like a dud. All information taken from Zap2it

Opportunity Knocks
Game Show
Premieres: Tuesday, September 23

Premise: Traveling the country with a semi-truck full of prizes, the "Opportunity Knocks" team will arrive in neighborhoods around the country giving one family per episode the chance to play a game show in front of their friends and neighbors.

First Impressions: It's as if the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team arrives in your neighborhood to build a game-show set, not a house. Questions based on the participating family's life could provide some amusement.

Stars: J.D. Roth

Life on Mars
Drama
Premieres: Thursday, October 9

Premise: Based on the BBC series about a present-day police detective who gets into a car crash and finds himself in 1973, where he's still a detective, but things are 35 years different.

First Impressions: ABC says it's making some changes to the pilot, but the period details look to be well-done, and the casting of Colm Meaney as the bare-knuckles boss is note-perfect.

Stars: Jason O'Mara ("The Agency"), Harvey Keitel ("Reservoir Dogs," "National Treasure"), Michael Imperioli ("The Sopranos")

The Goode Family
Animated Comedy
Premiering: Midseason

Premise: A well-meaning family attempts to always do the right thing, but their attempts at political, social or environmental action tend to lead to hilarious consequences.

Stars: Mike Judge ("King of the Hill"), Nancy Carell ("The Daily Show," "The Office"), Dave Herman ("Office Space"), Abby Elliott

Scrubs
Comedy
Premiering: Midseason

Premise: The bay-to-day events in the life of Dr. John Dorian are chronicled, as he advances his medical career working at the frequently surreal Sacred Heart Hospital where the patients and staffers are often equally wacky and heartbreaking. Wait. That sounds familiar. The two-time Emmy nominee for outstanding comedy series finally moves from its schedule hopping position at NBC to ABC after seven variably rated seasons. Except more of the same, only perhaps with a bit more schedule stability and promotion. Perhaps.

Stars: Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn

Returning ABC Shows:
America's Funniest Home Videos
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Desperate Housewives
Brothers and Sisters
Dancing with the Stars
Samantha Who?
Boston Legal
Eli Stone
Pushing Daisies
Private Practice
Dirty Sexy Money
Ugly Betty
Grey's Anatomy
Wife Swap
Super Nanny
20/20
