I know that right now I have more disposable income than my parents did in their mid-thirties and early forties. I don't have a mortgage or kids or many bills. My parents made more money than I do now, but they were raising four kids so there were never any pennies to spare. Of course, now that all the kids are out of the house they're living it up.
As far as males being targeted, maybe they're more irresponsible with their money and more likely to make buy things they don't need ;)
